When is the PC version coming for this.

Common guys you need to be supporting mac and PC version to rotate the videos...

We purchased this product as well and we use it for PC and we would like to use this functionality as well.

Thanks.

Thanks for the requests for video rotation in Camtasia Studio. We are seeing more and more videos coming from cameras and phones into Camtasia Studio, instead of just screen recordings. So we're aware that this is needed, and we are considering video rotation for a future version of Camtasia Studio. Let me anticipate the next question(s) by saying we can't talk about features or dates for future versions. What I can say is we appreciate your feedback and requests, both positive and negative. It helps keep us focused on the things that matter most to you. Please keep it coming.

A future version still does us no good, because won't repurchase software from a company that would force me to upgrade for this standard elementary feature. windows live movie maker comes free with windows 7. I think you guys are a few notches above that but seriously. Get the feature done and send it as an update ASAP! Maybe you should check Google's open source code if your software engineers are lost on how to do this.

I like Awhodat's comment. This is just the difference between a company with a bunch of perfectionist and a company that will just let things pass as long as they are "good enough". Again agreed...no idea why a software company would be stupid enough to release some functionalities in one version and not another, especially when we are talking about BASIC functions. I love Camtasia as it's the been screencast software, but seriously there needs to be better support for others things, as we aren't only recording just our screen. You would think they would be eager to do this especially as it would mean more potential customers = more money. It amazes me how dumb some companies are.

Well myself I would have to disagree with calling the company dumb or anything. Maybe they should add video rotation and maybe not. It is a screen recording software with some outputs to different devices such as mobile phones, iPads, etc. but, the company is not claiming this to be a Full Motion Video Editing Software like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Windows Movie Maker, or any others that are meant to do that job.

I personally like to see the feedback from different users point of views and suggestions to make the software better. But, I also keep in mind that there is a difference between a full motion editing software and a record what you see on you screen (Screen Recording App) and webcam (PIP).

Some devices save their video formats in different ways and file extensions. In my opinion there is no one cure for all app that does everything a user might want it to do or everyone would be doing it. I use Camtasia Studio to record my software apps and what I see on my screen and sometimes use the webcam for Picture In Picture and that is nice and basic. The editing functions are reasonable in my opinion but, the video rotation would be a nice feature. If I want to add professional effects to my Camtasia Recordings then I produce my screen recording to a format that my Full Motion Video Editing Software will accept and use it. I know it seems like twice the work but, I use the software programs that were meant to do what they claim. If TechSmith starts adding a whole bunch of editing features, etc. then in my opinion it takes away from what some users want to use it for which is Recording what they see on their screen and a PowerPoint Presentation. It does have nice features and one thing I would like to see added is ASIO Drivers for Pro Audio Equipment but that is more for the sound than video editing.

Well, sorry for this long post and I will get off my soapbox now. These are just my views and how I look at it. I hope nobody takes offense to it. Have a great day.

Oh, By the way. If a Super Magnificent Do It All Software ever comes out then a lot of companies would be out of business. Maybe they should all just help each other and forget cutting each others throats and work on developing something like that. Nope, that would not make sense..... Or would it? Have a great day everyone and keep up the Great Work TechSmith and thanks for listening to your users.

Josa I am sorry to hear that. Did you look download the 30-Day Trial before you purchased or watch any of the tutorials TechSmith offers for free on their site? Just curious because I like to find out if a software application is going to do what I want with it before I tend to purchase it first. However, I can understand your feelings and would suggest that you put that option to rotate video in for a feature request and that will be one more request. Just my opinion. Have a great day and thanks for posting your feedback.

Until, you get this feature on PC, here is a free little program that does just that.
Then you can import your video to Camtasia afterwards and do your editing.

http://dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/...

This a nice to have feature in Camtasia, I understand that this is not a feature directed at the primary market since this is a screen and webcam capture and editing program.

I hope it was okay to link to this program, only did it so that people can get on with their work. A lot of people get to this tread via google, so a solution on the site seamed like a good idea.

Hello everyone,

Camtasia Studio 8 has been released, and it more than addresses this issue. You can now transform and rotate any visual media and animate those changes as well. This functionality has been requested for some time, and we are happy to finally deliver it to you. Thank you so much for your patience while we revamped the Editor.

The 30-day trial is fully functional and can be installed alongside existing versions of Camtasia Studio. You can learn more about the new version here:

http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia-wha...

We hope you like it. But if you don’t, please come back and let us know why!

"Oh sure, you can rotate stuff on mac, put not on PC. Your going to have to re-buy the whole software"

Honestly Josa Hernandez's comment has extreme, but really. PAY for the rotation? I feel raped!

The only option in this autocratic software company is to buy the software with the money you could have fed yourself with.

Hi Cory- If you click on the video in the preview window, you should see a rotation drag handle next to the center point of the video (It's a green dot). You can grab that handle and use it to rotate the video around. It should snap at 180 degrees.

Note that video rotation is only available in Camtasia Studio 8+. Older versions do not support this feature.

I've just upgraded to 8. I can't find in the "help" section how to rotate a clip from my iPhone when using the software on my pc. I've found this thread and I've found the link to the above to the "what's new in version 8" but I still cant figure out how to do it. Any hints??

I purchased Camtasia and love it. I just don't understand why i need to pay another $99.00 when I made my purchase in less than a years time. Obviously you were working on Camtasia 8 when I made my purchase - you just don't produce and code and then roll-out software in a day. You had to be working on this newer version when I made my purchase.

I want a better discount! As a customer who has purchased literally all your software numerous times I am requesting a better discount than $99.00.

I feel for you Mobi but that is just not how the software industry works. If they could never work on a product while selling their current product, they'd never make any money.

They did offer it for $79 for a limited time when they released it and sent out a ton of marketing to people letting them know (if you were on their email list or visited their website). If it were me, I'd call them and see what they'd be willing to do. I would politely ask them if they would be willing to offer it to you for the introductory price.

It's a great company with great software...hopefully you'll find some type of resolution soon.

Love their products - have been with them since they started. I just cannot qualify the $99.00 dollars after I just spent over $300.00 dollars to have their software. I mean if you are going through iterations and still offering old versions let the customers know. Put a beta version out there that you are working on and offer it.

I have dealt with software development for close to 20 years - don't hide the fact that you are working on a new version from your customers. I never received any email offering it at a $79.00 price. But still that would be a bit much even after you just purchased the old version that they just upgraded.

Still their products rock and roll the way that products should work and the tutorials are an added bonus. I know a lot of hard work goes into their software.

Hello - only one month from purchase? That still is a very short time. But I purchased my Camtasia Studio Version 7/Snagit Version 10 Bundle at Amazon and was pleasantly surprised that (you)TechSmith had it posted there for sale as I am a student with an Amazon account. Again great product and I am sure that version 8 was in the works at 11/25/2011 when I made my purchase. You do have free upgrades for Snagit for longer than a month, don't you? Let me know and thanks for the response. Also will it work with Windows 8? Keep up the good work. As I know a lot of work goes into this and seriously a great product(s). Okay I got my fingers crossed :)

Hey, here's something I don't like about the new Studio 8...The Blue Screen of Death! Running on an XP machine with plenty of HD space and RAM. 100% of times I've tried to use it I get the big bad blue. Ouch. What's the fix for that? :-)

I will say that generally you make a good product.

For what it's worth: BSODs are essentially faults encountered during kernel mode operations (internal operating system functions). Most BSODs that I come across are the result of a driver issue.

For instance, on a machine I have at home, I installed Windows 7 and used it with a graphics card for which there was no Windows 7 driver. It worked ok until I tried to take a Direct3D application fullscreen. Then I got a blue screen.

Long story short, you may need to update some drivers. Alternatively, maybe we are doing something a little strange and you just happen to have hardware that doesn't like it . My guesses would be audio or video. In that case, you might just have to try different hardware. But my money is on the driver.

Anyway, Tech Support should get some detailed information from you, such as what exactly you are doing when the blue screen happens, etc. And if they can't figure it out, they'll send it up to development. Either way, we'll try and help you!

A simple strategy to rotate your video guys, if you're using a PC is to follow these steps.

Open your video in Camtasia
Convert your video to AVI format
Open your Video with Movie Maker
Flip or Rotate your video, Done!

Now you can import the Video back to Camtasia for editing if you wish.
