You could try a programme like 'Format Factory' - this is free (windows only) and is an excellent video conversion tool:

Format Factory is free. However, it  constantly crashes and this program doesn't have a Mac version.

To convert FLV to MP4 with ease, I recommend you a full guide on how to do this at: http://www.faasoft.com/articles/flv-to-mp4-on-mac-and-windows.html

I just finished converting a FLV file to MP4 right now.  It easy and helpful.

I use a free software called HandBrake and it does a very nice job. The link for it is below: I hope this helps and it would be nice if TechSmith had a way to do this with Camtasia Studio or a separate software.

I stick by Handbrake, though I am always open to something new, better, faster -- and safe.

'Format Factory' has reports of spyware, and with it coming out of China, my radar went on High Alert. For me, 'Format Factory' is not safe.

I still use Handbrake as it has been the most reliable for me with no problems. Sometimes it can take awhile to convert but that could also depend on the size of video and the memory resources and space on your computer and hard drive. Just my opinion.

Real easy way to do this in windows (Vista+ I think) without spyware and other garbage:

1. Download zeranoe's FFMPEG windows binary - http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ you'll need 7-zip to extract the 7z
2. Extract FFMPEG.EXE to your Downloads folder (no subfolders). No installation.
3. Open notepad.
4. Copy these 4 lines and paste the contents::
FOR /R "." %%f IN (*.flv) DO (
    "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\fmpeg.exe" -n -i "%%~nf.flv" -b:a 384K "%%~nf.mp4"
    DEL "%%~nf.flv"
)

5. Press Save As...
6. Type shell:sendto followed by a return
7. Click the drop down next to Save as Type - where it says: Text Documents (*.txt)
8. Change it to All FIles (*.*)
9. Type "Convert FLV To MP4.BAT"
10. Press Enter, exit notepad

Now all you have to do is put your FLVs in any folder, then right click one of them.
Then click or hover to send to..
Then click "Convert FLV to MP4.bat"

This will batch script convert all your FLVs in that folder using FFMPEG and delete the old FLV files.

FFMPEG.EXE can be put somewhere else, but you have to change "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\Convert\ffmpeg.exe" to its location. Keep the quotes around it if there's spaces.

To change the bitrate, change the value of 384K to something else that is an appropriate bitrate value (no commas, M should be appropriate)

To convert MP4s to MP3s you can do the same exact method but change step 4 to the following  -
FOR /R "." %%f IN (*.mp4) DO (
    "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\ffmpeg.exe" -n -i "%%~nf.mp4" -b:a 384K -vn "%%~nf.mp3"
    DEL "%%~nf.mp4"
)

Then in step 9 change the filename to something like "Convert MP4 to MP3.bat". Always keep .bat at the end since this tells windows it's a batch script. The -vn is the change that removes the video. To keep both files you can remove the line that starts with DEL.

HI, hoping you get this message soon as I need to convert these files asap...I followed your FFMPEG.EXE instructions above. The .flv files went away but nothing was left behind? I do not see the .mp4 files anyplace? Any ideas? Windows7 Enterprise...

Hmm, well if you wanted the mp4 files still you'd remove this line - DEL "%%~nf.mp4"

Should have mentioned that.

or being that they are FLV files:

DEL "%%~nf.flv"

you can have it copy them to videos also by adding before the DEL LINE for better organization:

COPY /Y "%%~nf.mp4" "%userprofile%\Videos\"
COPY /Y "%%~nf.flv" "%userprofile%\Videos\"

There are probably some legit free addons, but I don't like spyware so I just use the console.

I have a FLV file that shows only one frame of video every few seconds. The audio is okay. I've tried 3 players and converted to MP4 using Handbrake. None of these work. This video used to work years ago, under Windows XP. Currently using Windows 8.1 . Adjusting many different VLC internal parameters has no effect.

Joe Morgan, The UNFOLLOW in your reply is the only UNFOLLOW on this page. The UNFOLLOW in the email simply links to this page. I changed my email address in the GetSatisfaction website and still got a notice of your reply.\

There is a FOLLOW button here, but no UNFOLLOW. Maybe a bug in the web programming here.

However,
You should be able to go into account settings and stop all e-mail notifications and change email accounts and settings.

I did that, still receiving notifications. Must be coming on a hidden account, maybe from a Google login or something. I'll just filter them out for now, so I probably won't reply further. Thanks for your attempts to help.
