Hello Jaclyn,
We don't put a cap on the recording limit, and in theory, you should be fine.

Recording is a resource intensive process though, so personally I'd be a little nervous that something will go wrong with my computer during that time frame. It also depends on what you're recording. Will you have a lot of Windows open or any intense programs running?

You will also want to make sure you have a lot of Hard Drive space available. It's hard to say how much because it depends a lot on what you are recording, the dimensions, etc.

So in summary, if I were doing it, if I had a break during the event I would stop the recording and save that camrec. I would stitch them back together during editing later.

If this was not possible, check your HD space and close down anything you don't need on your computer. Maybe do a reboot before you start the day so your computer starts "clean".

Hope that helps,
Mike Curtis

Come on. People have security webcams in their homes now, and they have 1 TB hard drives, and they have Quad CPUs and 16GB RAM. This is retail stuff. W7 is a nice stable platform and people at home leave their PCs on all day and all night without crashes. You've got to commit that SnagIt or Camtasia will do an 8 hour day (or night) or won't. And I strongly suggest that if they won't, you improve them so they do!

Hi Charlie,
I see the last post on this topic was about 4 years ago. So, things have changed a lot.

Have you tried making a recording this long with your current computer setup?
If so, have you been successful?

Or, by posting here are you inferring that you cannot make an 8 hour long video?

Camtasia is great for recording your screen. But, I would be interested in hearing about your experience capturing from a security camera for an entire night.
