How to timestamp SnagIt Captures?

How can I add a timestamp to a SnagIt capture? I would like for the time/date stamp to appear on the image itself somewhere to document exactly when it was taken vs. having to look at the file name or in the file properties. Any suggestions? I couldn't find the 'caption' option in my effects as was suggested to someone back in 2011. Thanks.

You could use the text tool to write it in. The caption under Effects in the main Snagit interface is the other option.

Hi Tamara,

Thanks for the question! Here is a short video showing how to set up a timestamp caption on new captures: http://screencast.com/t/mqVvmDleh. The key is to set up the caption prior to your capture and then you can customize how you show the caption.

I hope this helps out :). Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Jason. After watching the video, I was able to go through the steps to set a caption -- but then after I did that & hit 'print screen' or selected a profile for a capture, the time/date wasn't on the image. I don't have a 'All in One' capture type like the selection you made. Not sure what I'm doing wrong? Maybe I need to save it in my profile(s) somehow? Thanks for your help.

Hi Tamara,

Chances are you have an earlier version of Snagit, but it's not required to have the All-in-One capture type for this to work properly.

You are correct in needing to save the profile for future use. Here is a quick tutorial video on how to create a custom profile: http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-sna....

The video above might look slightly different than your version of Snagit, but the concepts should still be available.

Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions :)

Hi, I have the opposite problem, snagit has suddenly started adding a time and date stamp to all my captures. How do I remove it? I have version 11.1.0 build 248

An erroneous tick under Effects in the Profile Settings perhaps? Look under captions and untick any options.

Alternatively, see if there's an * next to the profile name. If yes click another one and then click it back to erase any unsaved changes.
