Some of you may have noticed an increased number of spam posts hitting the TechSmith community. The platform we use to power our community, Get Satisfaction, has been targeted by spammers over the past couple of weeks. We have been keeping in close contact with Get Satisfaction to make sure they understand the negative impact this has on our community and staff and stay up to date on their progress in dealing with the problem. They are working to improve their spam prevention measures and we are banning spammers and removing their posts as quickly as possible. Removal time is running anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on time of day. Fortunately, there are good tools built into the platform for this, so it's not costing us a lot of time.
Probably the most annoying part of all this for community members are the email notifications you get when a spammer posts to a thread or category you follow. If you are getting a lot of these, you may want to consider setting up a rule in your email client to route Get Satisfaction notifications into a subfolder for now. (Instructions for Microsoft Outlook and Gmail; you can filter by from: noreply.getsatisfaction@getsatisfacti....) Or temporarily unsubscribe to notifications by visiting your profile page, clicking the "Email & Notifications" link at the top, and changing your settings:
I know you hate spam as much as we do and I apologize for the distraction and annoyance. We are hopeful that this will be behind us soon!
