Some people experience delays when an Autosave is triggered.
The default setting is every 2 minutes.
I don't recommend disabling it all together. You can disable it temporally. See if the problem clears up.

If it does, you could leave it disabled. Saving you project manually every time you blink your eyes "So to Speak".
Which I don't recommend as it requires your undivided attention. Its unproductive as well.
I would try a modest setting of 15 minutes or so.See if that works for you.

I may be the only one on the planet who believes this, but I suspect it's a drive caching (by windows) problem. There is but one known (to me) way to resolve it:

Download "sync.exe" here:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/sync

If you open device manager and open "Disk drives", you can rt. click on any drive and open it's "Properties".
On the "Policies" tab, if you uncheck "Enable write caching . . ." performance will suffer  so leave it checked.
There are some drives that don't allow Windows to cache for them, 99% do by default.
The problem with Windows 10, is that it fails to flush cache in a timely matter. So if another app wants to use the drive, it waits until the cache is flushed.

How can you force Windows to flush it? Mark Russinovich's (an MS guy) SYNC utility.  There is one small problem: A drive can only be flushed from a another drive. So keep it on an SD card or thumb drive, with a shortcut from your desktop.

Have you ever clicked on a quick-launch or start button icon and nothing happens? Clicking a second and third also triggers Windows to the flush cache.

I should also add, sync must be run as an administrator. To make that permanent, rt-click on the exe file, select properties and the compatibility tab.  Near the bottom, check the "Run as. . ." box.
