I am receiving an error that "The project file cannot be opened. Make sure the selected file is a valid .tscproj or .camproj"

I saved the file, it does have a .tscproj extension. I have opened it as a txt file and followed all the suggestions from other previous threads discussing the same issue. I have repaired Camtasia and uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing works.

I am using Version 9.1.4 (build 14) 64-bit.

This error only occurs on my most recent project. All my other past projects open without a problem.

This seems to be a recurring issue for people judging from the number of threads. Does anyone have a workable solution?

Appreciate any help or advice. Thank you.

are any of your source files [on timeline] located on network or cloud drives?

do any of the files have very long names?

No to both. I opened the file in txt format and compared it to working projects. Everything looks fine. The project that doesn't work is actually far simpler than some of my other projects. 

There are 4 .trec files in the project and 1 png image. That's all. And all files are located in the default Camtasia folder.

if it's a simple project, might be faster to just redo it from scratch?

just curious, but what happens if you rename the source files where they are before trying to load the project?

It was still several hours of work so I would rather not have to start over.

I just changed the source file names and there is no difference. It doesn't give the usual error that the files can't be located. Just the same message that the file can't be opened because of the name.

I have Camtasia 9 on my system; can you put the project file on screencast.com so I could download/look at it; don't need the source files, just the project file ?

Apologies, but how do I upload and share a file to screencast? I've uploaded it (I think) but it appears empty when I click it and can't see an option to share.

Same error message unfortunately. I am logged in to screencast.com, click upload, and drag the file in. Is there some other method?

what browser you using?

I just tested; from the sc.com web site, I was able to upload a .tscproj file OK; it will not, seemingly, download using Chrome [blocked], but the file actually downloads OK but is saved with a .crdownload extension; changing the extension back to .tscproj works

otherwise, when on sc.com, in the folder you want to use, use the download button [top of page]; it may help to work in the details view

that "project" file has been totally corrupted , and is no longer valid; it no longer contains any project descriptive data

curious ... what were you doing when the error message first occurred?

if you can't find another, good, copy, you will probably have to start over

also suggest you contact  tech support and inquire if they've ever seen that type of failure before

I checked that already Joe but sadly no auto save file, I have no choice but to start all over again regarding to what kayakman says.

sorry to hear there is no auto-save file

something to consider going forward ...

I operate with auto-save set to run every 5 minutes

I also execute a manual save after every major edit

if I'm working on a very high value project, I'll also execute export to zips, using a sequential name, ever so often

hello, i read this thread and I tried finding the solutions you guys proposed, the only one that seemed to go on a good path was the autosave one, which I was out of luck and the only autosaved file was right when I started... 

if any of you could help me (even if this seems pretty much unfixable) I would highly appreciate since I was editing a video that was a Christmas present and with this crash I failed to deliver it on time. I already had edited 2h of raw footage. 
I am quite terrible at fixing problems like this though so I have no idea what I can send to help so please guide me.
