Even though I toggled off < View | Show Sidebar > menu, placeholder view does not gets removed. I think this is a bug. Not sure if this is the case on windows too.

snagit version is 2019.1.0 (94020)
macos version is 10.14.2(18C54)

I have this problem, too.  I have the same version of SnagIt as you and since I didn't have this problem with the early versions of SnagIt 2018 for Mac, I've got to believe that a bug was introduced into SnagIt some time later.  I just upgraded to macOS 10.14.3 today, but it didn't help with this SnagIt issue.

Hi,

This should be fixed in 2019.1.1 which is available now

I just updated to the 2019.1.1 and I confirm that this issue has been resolved.

In addition, capturing became quick and feels light again. It's been too heavy that it almost felt frozen (mojave).

Thanks for the update.

I also have updated to SnagIt 2019 for Mac 2019.1.1 and I can't quite agree.  Yes, when I select a tool, such as Cut Out and then click on the Show Properties Panel icon on the lower right of the window, the Quick Styles for Cut Out then appears.  However, when I was ready, in SnagIt 2018 for Mac, to close that sidebar, all I had to do was to click on the Show Properties Panel icon again and the sidebar would close and then re-expand the main window to the right.  In SnagIt 2019 for Mac 2019.1.1, clicking on the Show Properties Panel icon (a second time) does nothing.  If I want to close the sidebar window, I need to select the View/Show Sidebar command from the menu bar instead (or Command 4).

Having pointed this out, I like what I'm seeing in SnagIt 2019 for Mac 2019.1.1 so far.  In addition to fixing the sidebar issue that I was having, this release of SnagIt lacks the lag of the previous release and seems much more responsive.  Good job, TechSmith!

I see. I just pressed command+4, but clicking again on those buttons to close the side bar would be great to have!

Significant performance improvement indeed!

I have version 2019.1.1 for Windows and the issue with the Properties has not been fixed. I still have to go to the View Menu and deselect Side Bar. I don't want the Properties window automatically popping up every time I take a screen shot. Can you add an option in Settings to stop the auto start-up of the Side Bar???

I also have the latest version as posted above and the properties panel is still locked and cannot be hidden other than going to view each time and unchecking it. I went back to the previous 2018 version and it works fine hiding the panel by just clicking on the properties icon - then clicking the same when you want to view (time saver and efficient). If there is something else I need to do to hide the panel, please post, but this seems like a good feature was lost in the update.

It's that way in windows too.

Version 2019.1.1 you have to go to the "View" menu to toggle the properties/effects panel on or off with the new "Side Bar" option.

Clicking the the words no longer closes the panel(s).

It was a really  in-efficient and IMO air headed change.

Hi,

Sorry that this change was been frustrating. The reason the change was made was because we had a number of users who would click on the words and were confused that the sidebar went away and weren't sure how to get it back.

I am so very sorry for those who mistakenly clicked on the words and had the side bar disappear but it's maddening for me because every time I take a screen shot and it goes into the Editor, Properties opens and I can't close it like I used to by clicking the Properties button at the bottom right. Now I have to go into the View Menu and de-select Side Bar. I don't want Properties automatically opening and I don't want to have to go to the View Menu to de-select it. There should be an option in Settings to inactivate the auto startup of the Side Bar. Never had this problem in version 2014 why upgrade and not offer this option to more advanced users.

Put an arrow on the Sidebard so it can be expanded/collapsed quickly.
