Does the audio play when you are looking at your project and playing it back inside of Camtasia?

Yes it does.
I have done video editing in the past so I am ok with Final cut pro, Adobe premiere etc
I was wondering if it was a setting but i couldn't see that either. i couldnt imagine there being a problem with the format being mp4. It is on a mac.

It's possible you accidentally turned off audio when exporting.  Check in the options for the export and make sure the Encode Audio checkbox is checked in the audio section in the options dialog.  If that is not the issue, then I think it'd be easiest to open a tech support case:

Ok Thanks I will look into that.

I was exporting to .mp4 and there was another option "export to main concept (.mp4) the later actually worked. I dont know why and what the difference is but it did.

One uses Apple's encoder (the first) and the MainConcept one uses another third party encoder that we leverage. Interesting that one worked and not the other, thanks!

Did you accidentally change the options for audio export?

It is possible to turn audio off, and if you set the data rate to strange values, you might end up with no audio as well.
