I spent all day editing a video, saved the project and tried to open it today...but I get an error, I even installed camtasia 9 and tried to change the .camproj for .tscproj but I still get the same error: "The project file cannot be opened. Make sure the selected file is a valid .camproj file" I just uninstalled camtasia 8 and I'm installing it again to see if something changes

Did you save the original *.camproj file somewhere so that it can be looked at again?

If in Windows, I would do a search for .camproj to see if there is another project file on your PC that is the correct file. Also, if you have more than one version of Camtasia installed on your computer. Open each version of Camtasia (don't just click on the project file),  and then try to open the project file from within each separate version.

The file itself is corrupt.
I downloaded it and opened it in Notepad ++

In the image below, you'll see that your project dimension are "0" pixels wide by "0" pixels high.
Which is an impossible dimension.
10 x 10 is the smallest pixel settings Camtasia will allow.
I'm sure other things are amiss.

Below you project is a project of mine.
I included it as an example. You'll see its 1280 x 720.
I tried altering the settings in your project to 1920 x 1080. To see if that would fix it. It didn't work {:>(

kayakman has a technique to sniff out discrepancy's. Maybe he'll fire up beyond compare and take a peak at it?

project file was missing a block of script; adding it back in allowed the project to open

but there was no media referenced in the project, so nothing would show even if you could open it
