What type of media? Specifically, what file type?

MOV files from the likes of Canon cameras are not supported natively in Camtasia.  If you are using MOV files, then you can convert them with VLC and set video to MPEG4 and Audio to MP3 or AAC.
Or you may have your microphone gain level set to low and no sound is picked up.  Can you hear any sound if you open the video in a media player other than Camtasia?

Great suggestions that geoff.devitt has offered up and the questions he asked. Another suggestion is to  use Handbrake which is free software to convert the files if it is needed. Just my suggestion and I have used Handbrake for problem files a lot and also VLC.

Received an update for Camtasia yesterday, V2018.0.1 (Build 3457).  Since installing this patch, MOV files appear to be working with no issue now.  Glad that Camtasia appear to have addressed this, as it will cut down the time where I had to convert all my MOV files.

Reviewing the release notes, and it would appear they have fixed the issue.
