When you installed the Camtasia 9 did you by chance have the checkbox selected to have it install the PowerPoint Add-In ? If so, then it used the latest version which would have been 9 and installed it.

In Camtasia Studio 8 if you look at the options in the Camtasia Studio 8 Editor you should be able to check the Add-Ins and if it is not showing Camtasia 8 for a PowerPoint Add-In you should be able to just select to use it and then restart Camtasia Studio 8 and Open PowerPoint and look at your Add-Ins and it should show up then. This is just a suggestion as I am not on my computer that has Camtasia Installed right now to take any screenshots but will do later or tomorrow to show the steps.

Try opening Camtasia Studio 8 Editor and Go to Tools>Options>PowerPoint and make sure there is a checkmark in the box for Enable PowerPoint Add-In and click Ok and then open PowerPoint and check to see if it is working or not. Let us know by posting back here and I hope this helps a bit and you find the information useful. Thanks for posting and have a great day/night.

A few months ago I installed Camtasia 9 next to 8. Because of some bugs I uninstalled 9 and then found that  8 no longer worked. A reinstall of version 8 did the trick.

The problem was probably that I did a complete uninstall of version 9. Both versions apparently use the same assets/library.

Frank I have not found that issue when I uninstalled Camtasia 9 as I wanted to see what would happen with your statement on the Assets/Library.

My suggestion for anyone who is planning on doing an uninstall is if they have any Assets in the Library is to make sure to export them all so they can be Imported back into the software without losing any of them but when doing an install without any special made Assets you should still have the standard Assets in the Library that came with the software. I have never lost those when doing an uninstall but, have lost my created Assets as I did not Export (Back them up) beforehand.

Thanks for posting as your feedback is nice to see and it could be a bug or not but without users feedback here then TechSmith has no way of knowing what is working or not working and what their users would like to see implemented etc.

Have a great day/night and thanks again for sharing your input.

Cheers ~ Fred.

Fred, I am not 100% sure if it were assets missing. It certainly had to do with essential files in some ProgramData folder that were installed/used by both versions. This was on Windows 7 64 bits.

Now I have the latest of both versions installed on my production system so I hope you understand I won't try to repeat it. ;)

Yes I understand Frank. I have both Camtasia Studio 8 and Camtasia 9 installed on my laptop and desktop. It is solely for the purpose of using one to record the other with and I also use SnagIt to accomplish this. Keep us updated and if you have more questions please post them as with other users feedback coming in it makes this a great community for all and allows TechSmith to see what is working and not working and get some user inputs. However this is just a user to user community and not a TechSmith Support website so when having bad issues that cannot be solved here then it is always best to contact them on those kind of things as one will most likely get better results.

Have a great day/night.

Cheers ~ Fred.
