I want to know the precise conditions for copying and pasting an object

The above picture shows the results when using the selection tool and the move tool.

I used the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V to copy and paste.

When using the move tool, two actions occur.

Sometimes objects are copied with the background and can not be edited.

At other times objects can be copied and edited without a background.

I want to copy an object that I can edit, but I want to know how I can copy without being lucky.

I agree that it is hit or miss when copying and pasting objects whether you get objects pasted or a non-editable bit map of the screen the objects were in. I want to copy one or more objects and then paste them as objects. Lately my luck has been bad and I am only getting the bit map pasted and it becoming very annoying to the point of finding something else. Please fix this or make it an option!

Same issue here. I'VE HAD IT WITH THIS RIDICULOUS COPY/PASTE BEHAVIOR. RIGHT-CLICKING ON A SINGLE OBJECT THEN PASTING DOESN'T PASTE ANOTHER COPY OF THE OBJECT. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU DEVELOPERS THAT YOU HAVEN'T FIXED THIS ISSUE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I require this ability to create identical objects (size and angle) for insertion into legal documents (traffic collision analysis reports to insurance companies). I can't be messing around with redrawing an object and then trying to make it identical to a previously drawn object.

Copy/paste for objects worked correctly in earlier versions. Don't you guys know how to test for side-effects when you make changes to software????????????

This was originally reported 1 year ago. Fix is SOON or I'M GOING TO ASK FOR MY MONEY BACK FOR VERSION 2019.11.

Good grief.

Well, well, well, I found a work around: instead of copying the object, cut it then paste it back immediately. Then, every time after that it will paste the object, not the bitmap image behind the object.

Good grief Developers, ARE WE YOUR BETA TESTERS??????

Hi there

Your initial post seems to imply that by virtue of clicking an object and putting it on your canvas you think it also is placed in the Windows clipboard?

The Windows clipboard is only capable of pasting what is inside it. So it sounds as if you think you copied something but it wasn't really in the clipboard. The only way I can see this being a SnagIt issue is possibly lack of an indication that a copy occurred?

But note that whatever you add via clicking the tool (Callout, Arrow, whatever) is never added to the clipboard unless you first right-click and choose to copy it.

Cheers... Rick :)

She said..........Copy/paste for objects worked correctly in earlier versions.

That would imply she doesn't need guidance. That shes having the same or similar problem the other posters have reported.

Well, I thought I'd found an easy workaround but cutting/pasting doesn't always work either. It does work sometimes - cut, undo, touch another object, paste - but that really isn't repeatable. I messed with it for an hour trying to repeat the sequence but still couldn't reproduce it.

Sorry to let my anger get the best of me - won't happen again.
