I wish the next Snagit update will save both the saved and unsaved images in the library and able to take a back up of both the captures.

When I take a back up of all the snagit captures I'll have everything at one place. I don't have to search for the images. And snagit already saves the library in the sate format so that it's easy to search the old captures.

Many times I take a screenshot and save it in my desktop so that I can send it to developers. In my office, we switch the laptop as a lot. When I get a new system all my saved images are not in my library is a huge concern for me.

????  All shots are autosaved. There is no option to turn that off. There is option to choose the place one saves to. It is possible to autosave to a network drive (which could possibly be a solution for you) but one does get a warning that can cause problems. (What kind is unknown to me.)

The location of the autosaved shots is MacintoshHD > Users > YourName > Documents > Snagit > Autosaved Captures.

Perhaps I am misreading your dialog. Perhaps you need to clarify. Don't know which.  :)

Snagit has two kinds of saving a screen capture.

1. Autosave to library

2. Save a file to user specified location

When I go to snagit library, I can see both the screen captures by date. This is very good feature.

Issues

When I switch my laptop, usually I take a backup of my library. Then what happens is the system only take the back up of autosave captures but not the user saved screen captures.

What Snagit support suggested is go to source file and open the file so that snagit automatically saves into library. The issue with this approach is I miss the date when I took the screen captures. I have about 8000 screen captures now I have open each one of them induvisually.

Feature I wanted

Snagit to autosave all my screen captures into library and able to backup and retrieve of all the screen captures regardless of its auto save or saved to user specified location.

Hope this is clear :)

It's crystal clear. And I learned something new. I don't maintain a separate group of shots nor move from Mac to Mac.... so I hadn't been aware of this situation. Sounds like an idea that needs doing.

Ignore my advice above. I presumed you were on a Mac. I am not familiar with Snagit's save protocols on Windows.

P.S. You should specify which version of Windows you are using. That will make lots of difference in the advice these engineers will provide. e.g. If you are still trying to limp along on an "old" PC using Windows 7 or 8, there's most of your problem right there.

The reason I asked the question is because the library on Snagit:Mac does not work the same as the library on Snagit:Win. The Win version keeps references to your .snag files but allows you to "save" them anywhere on your computer. For the most part, the Mac version only "lets" you save them in its library...  An advantage of the Mac version is (generally speaking) the files are in one place and easier to move/backup. This is a difference between the two platforms. There are pros/cons to each approach...  there are no current plans to change the Win library behavior at this time. I will however, pass a link to this conversation along the program manager.

Thanks Doug. It would be very helpful to have this feature in the next version of Snagit..

If the Win version is keeping the reference of .snag it file, it would be helpful to include those file at the time of back up

or

When I save the screen captures, instead of keeping the reference, if Win version can keep a copy of screen captures in library that works.

Either way, when I back up the files I get all the screen captures.
