I would love the blur tool to have shapes available instead of just square

If I had a round or octagon blur tool it would allow me to blur parts of my picture. If I try to do it with the square shape it takes forever and if I overlap too much I get crazy color lines everywhere

Just to echo - there have been a number of times I would've liked a circular or poly shape as well.

In looking at this and pondering it, it seems you could accomplish what you want by making a couple of adjustments to the workflow.

Select what you want to blur using the polygon selection tool.
Then right-click the selection and choose to Invert the selection.

Once you do that, head for the Effects panel and apply the Spotlight & Magnify effect to blur.

Rinse and repeat as needed to achieve the amount of blur you want to apply.

OK, interesting idea. But the maximum blur is 20%, which may not be enough. In fact, 20% is NOT enough.

That kludge can be used, but a shape-based blur would be much preferable.

LOL, yeah that's true. And I agree that what would be wonderful would be for the blur tool itself to offer more than a rectangle.

Keep in mind that it is possible to repeatedly apply the blur this way.

Or possibly just copy the selection and paste into a new empty background. Flatten and use the blur tool all you like, then copy it back and paste over the original. Not optimal, but it should allow you to accomplish it.

Then again, any and all of this is simply intended as a workaround for those that need it. Hopefully offering a way to accomplish the goal. A kludge to be sure, but a kludge that might get someone by in a pinch. ;)

And just because a kludge is suggested doesn't mean that it's stating that we already have a way to accomplish it and TechSmith should ignore the initial request. ;)

Cheers... Rick :)
