I have both .camrec and .camproj. When I open the .camproj file I can see the .camrec in the clipboard but I am unable to make any edits. The frame on the left is black. The .camrec will play but no ability to edit anything. Why??

Clipboard?

You need to be clearer on what you are doing. Are the camrecs on the timeline?
Post a screenshot here to indicate what you are seeing.

everytime I take a screenshot to show what I'm seeing, Jing only captures the bottom half of the screen. I have opened the file called .camproj and have no ability to edit anything. I have taken another recording, saved it and see a button in the bottom right of the screen that says "produce". The first time I made a recording, I did not select this button. This seems to be preventing me from editing this project when I try to open the file .camproj

I have watched the tutorials for saving and editing an none seem to address this issue. Is this "produce" button a known issue?

Hi Kira,

I think what I am hearing you say is that you have the .camrec in the clip bin and you are double-clicking it. Doing that will play the media preview in the canvas, but you are correct in observing that you cannot edit the .camrec from there.

If this assumption is correct, what you need to do is drag the .camrec from the clip bin down to the timeline (the tracks below the clip bin and video preview). It is within the timeline that all the editing of clips is done.

Does this help?

Thank you so MUCH!! I was so frustrated. The tutorial that I viewed did not mention to drag the .camrec to the timeline!! I really appreciate your response!

No, thank you. :)

You've pointed a gap out for us. In this case, the tutorial teaches that if you click "Save and Edit" from the recorder preview that the .camrec will be automatically added to the timeline. While this is correct, it does not cover what happens if you are just trying to add a .camrec to your video project. (How to add things from the bin to the timeline is covered in a separate tutorial, but it seems it may be worth a mention here.)

Thanks for using Camtasia Studio, and if you have any other questions, please continue to post them!

I have another question that I cannot figure out how to search for. I have a blank space (while a page is loading) in my recording that I want to cut out. But audio overlaps it. How can I cut out this white space but keep the audio the same? I've already tried separating the audio & video. I thought I had isolated the clip part only, but when I "cut" it I also lose that bit of audio.

On the left side of each track, there's a lock icon. If you lock a track, this will prevent edits from affecting this track. So if the audio and video are on separate tracks, you could lock the audio track, and then make your edits to the video track.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your replies. I did find the lock and locked the audio track, but the audio is still getting cut. Very frustrating!

Hi Kira,

If we are understanding you correctly, then what you are seeing is unexpected behavior. A locked track should not be editable at all.

Is there any chance you could record what is happening and post a link so we can see it? Alternatively, you can contact our technical support, and they may be able to walk you through your problem via screenshare.
