I would admire a "Snap to graphic" feature

I suggest a "Snap to graphic on screen" feature.

A screen measuring tool I use, SnapRuler, has a "snap to edges" feature that moves your beginning and ending measurement points to the edge of a graphic on the screen (not just a window, etc.); I presume they're looking for large changes in color between adjacent pixels and treating those as snappable edges. This feature is really useful for measurement, but would be more useful still for taking screen shots; one could take a shot that exactly encloses that table or text or artwork.

I've included a screen shot (taken with SnagIt, natch) showing the measurement tool displaying the exact dimensions of a popup menu (on the web page into which I'm typing this note). The tool snapped to the border of the menu; I didn't have to carefully draw my rectangle, using a magnifying pop-up to get the precision I need.

This would be a stunningly useful feature in a screen capture utility.

Hi John,

I'm Tomek Kopczuk, the lead developer of SnapRuler.

Thanks for your kind words.

We've had a lot of feedback regarding the screen capture feature and actually, since a few versions ago, SnapRuler has the screen capture ability, along with the 'snap to edges' feature.

Please upgrade SnapRuler using the Mac App Store and tell us what you think!

PS: SnapRuler is not meant to be a replacement for SnagIt, it's great and we love it – especially for audio and video capture.
