And how about Snagit 11?
How can I start recording video without countdown?

Why can't I disable the timer for videos? I just upgraded from 9 to 11, and lost functionality (no video codec choice, can't disable timer). Why did I pay for less functionality? This seems confusing. I waited two versions to upgrade and expected there would be a noticeable jump in features, to my dismay there are less.

Creating instant (non-delayed) video captures is one of my primary uses of this product. Now, to create a video, I use my hot-key combination, select an area of the screen with a drag of the mouse, then have to click record and wait for a countdown that I can't configure. In the past I merely hit the hot-key and selected an area...that was it. NO CLICKING record, NO WAITING for countdown. I use this for tech support and now by the time the recording starts I've missed the activity I wanted to record.

Update: I've rolled back to v10 and it works well. Instant recording with no prompt to click record, and no count down to begin. I can select different Codecs for the recording, as well.

Snagit v10 is a good product...what happened in v11? It doesn't seem to offer any additional functionality, and it reduces capability. I know there may be a button now to click to send a video straight to Youtube (or whatever), and for some maybe that's a big deal, but it looks like v11 offers little additional features and less functionality. Let me know if I'm way off base here. I love the Snagit and Camtasia products and have used them for years.

I'm using Mac version 2.1.5 and I have the same issue. I waste 5 seconds each time waiting for the countdown, and I make 50 videos per day on average. Really frustrating.

An option in Snagit to allow a user to eliminate the 3 second countdown would be most appreciated.

Sometimes there is something a user wants to capture that is currently happening on the screen. The event needs to be captured quickly and there is no time to waste. Currently, a user has to take the time to open Snagit and wait for it to open, then he has to position the capture window around the area they want to capture, all while time is wasting away, and then once all this is done and the "start" button is pressed, the program does an additional 3 second countdown, and when the program finally starts to capture, the event has passed, or at the least the beginning few seconds has been lost.

For new, inexperienced users a 3 second countdown may be fine, as well as for users who are not capturing time sensitive material. For advanced users however, this additional 3 second countdown which has to be gone through each and every time a video capture is started, the countdown can mean the difference between capturing the event and missing it, and as such is simply a nuisance.

Unless there is some internal reason the program can't function properly without a 3 second running start, an option to start immediately without any countdown, a "fast start" option for advanced users in Snagit's video configuration area would be most helpful,

I recently installed v11.2.1 (build 72) in the hope that this issue would be fixed and you could once again perform an instant video capture, but alas it is still not possible. What a disappointment. I can't understand what happened from v10 to v11. It seems to me that we have only lost functionality. Why create a new version and charge for less features and capabilities? I'll be rolling back to v10 again so I can continue to do my work. Techsmith please restore this capability. What happened?

Is there any way to turn off the 3 - 2 - 1 countdown in SnagIt 11? I want to start capturing NOW, not 3 seconds from now..

I am trying to find a way to shut off the countdown. I am losing precious time and data waiting for it to start.

If you didn't already get your answer- On your computer, go to All Programs, find the Snagit 10 Folder (or whatever your version is). Select the Snagit program, not the Editor. When it opens, click on Capture in the menu bar at the top. A dropdown list appears. Timer Setup is on the bottom. You can deselect delayed capture. You may also see in your hidden icons on windows program tray the icon for Snagit.  See attached image. Mine resets to time on periodically for no known reason.

Hi Linda,

I'm running Snagit 11.1
The "Timer Setup" item is only available for text and image file types on this version.
For video file types, "Timer Setup" is not available, it is greyed out.
While this may be available for earlier versions of Snagit, it is not available for version 11.

I have read other posts that have mentioned the ability to eliminate the delay in prior versions which was lost with version 11, essentally confirming the need for Techsmith to address this issue along with some other items I posted about at around the same time. Techsmith does not seem very interested in addressing these issues however, as considerable time has passed since bringing these items to their attention. .

Agreed. This is key as I often times am in need to start the recording immediately.

I have given this option a +1 as I feel it would come in handy when you want to capture something quick. I enjoy having this feature in CS 8. Now if we can get this feature into SnagIt it would also be used by others in my opinion. Thanks Anton and keep us updated on this feature request please.

I like the way you answer as if it will be a great favor to give us the option to NOT have a countdown timer, like every version before.  If you really work for techsmith, stop acting like this is something new and fix it already.  I don't want the countdown anymore.  I also want to hit print screen to stop the video like I used to.  I also want to be able to move the recording window when I pause a capture, like I used to.  You guys thought you were making this app really cool in this version but it was really cool before.  Stop changing the app just because you think you have to.  It was fine before.
