If I change the thumbnail, how long will "first frame" display?

When I uploaded a video, Screencast chose an awkward, mouth-open frame -- from midway through the video -- as my thumbnail.  I'd like to change it, but I'm not crazy about the unwanted side-effect that the new thumbnail will be displayed not just as the thumbnail in the Details box, but also at the very beginning of my video when it's played.  (Do I understand that right?)

I'd much rather change the thumbnail without permanently altering the way the video plays!  But I'm considering it, and would be interested to know:  If I make the change, how long will that thumbnail display as my "first frame"?  Like, for a moment, or several seconds?  (Or, have I misunderstood what happens with a new "first frame"?)

Also:  If I instead take down the video and upload it again, is there a way I can control what Screencast is going to use as the thumbnail so that, if Screencast again makes a bad random choice, I won't have to end up with a freeze-frame to start my video?  Thanks!

Hi kerumbo,

First frames for MP4 videos should only affect what displays to the viewer before they start playback. We do not alter your video in any way when you upload a new image to use as your new thumbnail and first frame.

At this time you can't tell Screencast where in the video to take a first frame from, and instead Screencast will just grab the first frame of the video and use that.

Let me know if this helps!

Perfect!  That's just what I was hoping (but didn't want to experiment, because of the "action cannot be reversed" warning).  So I'll go ahead and make the change.  THANKS for the quick and helpful reply!
