I'm installing Snagit 11 on a new PC. How can I move my unsaved clips?

As far as I know Snagit 11 does not have the restore feature, so I copied the datastore over but then Snagit would not start on the new PC.

Snagit will not start at all?
You should be able to find the new datastore and copy all the stuff from your backup into it. It will not show in the library but if you go into the datastore folder and load all the snag files ... then you will have them back
But if Snagit will not start at all ... are you getting any  error messages?
Check in task manager and stop any snagit processes including the editor if it is running
Try again. If it still won't load, go back to task manager and again kill any snagit processes that may be running
GO into the program folder, find snagit and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
If it loads that way that should be the only time you have to do that
Please post back here with as many details as possible so someone can possibly help

Hi there!

In Snagit 11.4.3 there should be a Backup/Restore option in the Snagit Editor options. In Snagit Editor go to the bubble in the upper left corner (denotes the "File" option) and at the bottom of the Editor should be the Options section. Check the Advanced area then click the Backup/Restore button.

You can use that method to make a SnagArchive file of your old datastore then move the package to the new computer then open the Editor (note, you'll want to clear out the old datastore you placed in there; while Snagit is completely exited, meaning it is not running in the background, you will want to rename the old datastore) and follow the aforementioned steps, this time restoring the backup.

Hope that helps!

-Robert

Note too the Operating Systems that Snagit 11 is compatible with. See here for more details.

Thanks’ for your reply. I found the backup/restore option under the big blue button.
However, soon after I started the backup procedure an error popped up: "An error occurred attempting to back up the library".
Then I made a zip-file and copied it to the new PC, opened up Snagit Editor and restored an error occurred: "Failed to initialize the Snagit datastore (error code -2147467259). Neither Snagit Editor nor the Snagit Capture will start up after that.

Any answers out there?

Did you zip up or even just copy the old datastore folder to somewhere else? If so, just close snagit and dump the contents of the old datastore into the new one. Nothing will show in the new install so you will have to load them all up into snagit for them to appear in the library. You can do 5 or 10 at a time using windows explorer
That will restore UNSAVED items since as soon as you save a graphic, it is removed from datastore and resides where you saved it

IF snag it won't start, use task manager to MAKE SURE no instances of snagit are running then go to the program folder and run as administrator. Try that a couple of times making sure that if it didn't start you again kill it in task manager, If successful you will not need to keep doing it as it should start successfully

You may have to uninstall v11 and reinstall it to give it a fresh run at initializing the datastore

Thanks' for your reply. In Snagit 11 I dragged a few unsaved snag-item from the old datastore and dropped them on then item selection earea at the bottom. That worked.
Also if I opened (File-open) a snag-item from the old datastore in Snagit on the new PC.
