The Youtube menu (or playlist or whatever the correct term is) shows videos as images with a title etc. below. How do I control what that image looks like from Snagit? I may not want the start of the video to be the image in the menu. I am new to SnagIt (if you wondered).

You cannot control the image displayed within SnagIt.

It's a you tube setting, you need to go into "Video Manager". Go into "Info and Setting for the video in question and upload a Custom Thumbnail if you want to display one.

You can export a still image png from a SnagIt recording by placing theĀ  playhead over the frame you want to save and chose png.

You tube only allows thumbnails no larger than 1280 x 720 so you may need to resize it before uploading and save as jpeg because file size is limited to 2mb as well. That doesn't give you much wiggle room.

You need to have certain account privileges (verified) in YouTube to be able to upload a thumbnail. The thumbnail size limit is 2 MB. Be sure to use Google Chrome to upload. There are known issues with other browsers. I always use .PNG format.

I use this option all the time for our college tutorials. Took me awhile to figure out the browser issue when colleagues had trouble uploading thumbnails. I keep a template so that I just have to change the title text. (In Illustrator, but snagit works, too)
