Images Disappear From Library

I frequently need to save a capture from SnagIt v13, to my Desktop, to use in various applications. However, once I save it to my Desktop, it disappears from my Library, if I delete it from my Desktop. I can't find any way to move it from my Desktop, back to my Library, for possible later use. I presume the same problem exists, if I save it to SkyDrive or any cloud application. My Library will display the image filename and a blank envelope, looking icon. If I click on it, nothing happens.
Is there a way I can keep my original Snag image in my Library?

Are the options in the editor preferences set to save images and/or videos to the library?

In the Snagit Editor go to File>>Editor Preferences >>Library Tab

Make sure the option to "Automatically save new image captures in the library" is checked
and the video one to if you so desire.

The other options are your choice of course.

Hope that fixes it for you :)

The options in the editor preferences are set to save images and/or videos to the library, as shown in your image. They always have been set for that option. I first started experiencing the problem with v11.X and v12.
Customer Support hasn't been able to help me fix the problem. Essentially, the Library is of little use to me, if I can't make it work. NOTE: I have installed and uninstalled SnagIt, relocated/renamed/worshipped the Data Store. A Ouiji Board is my next thing.

That is NOT the fix to the issue. Those options are set by default. There is something else completely going on here as it just happened to me and I'm on Windows 10. It's not a "settings issue"

Hi Garrick

I believe what Dubie posted was a mere suggestion of something to consider looking at. He wasn't stating it was the fix. At least, not the way I read it.

I note that this appears to simply be what the behavior is. If an image has been saved to the hard drive, then subsequently deleted from where it was saved, it appears to also be removed from the library. At least, that's what it's doing on my own setup.

I suppose this may be by design? Only the SnagIt developers can say for certain. My own guess is that it's done to prevent massive numbers of duplicate copies of images littering your drive?

One way folks may want to consider operating would be to utilize the ability to drag from the Recents tray in SnagIt and drop elsewhere. I just now tested that by dragging and dropping into a Windows File Explorer instance. It assigned an odd filename, of course. And that's to be expected. But it did leave the original image intact in the library when I deleted it from the hard drive.

So perhaps a workflow change should be considered?

I know that for me, personally, I used to work that way. I had what I considered to be a clever workflow for "temporary" type images. I'd save them to my hard drive using names like temp.png. THEN I would insert them in other places by manually uploading and pointing to the image. But since discovering the new-ish ability to just drag from the Recents tray to the application where I want the image (Pinterest, the facebook, Word, PowerPoint, etc) it saves so many steps! No need to save that intermediate image only to upload it later.

Happy Wednesday all... Rick :)

Just to also note that when operating in the manner I described, the image stored in the library appears to be in SNAG format. This is important because if you have added embellishments such as stamps or steps or highlights or whatever, they are still fully editable when you want to open that image later.
