Immediate crash when starting the program (Camtasia 2020.0.0)

Hello everyone,

I'm using Camtasia and SnagIt for many years now. Today I bought the Camtasia upgrade for version 2020. The installation went smoothly (Camtasia 2019 worked perfectly and was uninstalled beforehand). The program could be started once immediately after installation. After that, however, every execution of Camtasia and Camtasia Recorder results in immediate crash.

OS: Windows 10 Pro (1909) with the latest updates. Installed .NET versions: 4.8, 4.0, 3.5, 3.0, 2.0. Antivirus software: Windows Defender.

I restarted Windows and also ran the Camtasia repair installation as well as a complete reinstallation. To be on the safe side, I also ran the Windows System File Checker. Unfortunately, the problem persists.

The crashes are logged in the Windows Event Viewer and it mentions the file C:\Windows\System32\ucrtbase.dll (Camtasia Recorder) and C:\Windows\System32\KERNELBASE.dll (Camtasia).

I have also opened a support ticket, but I thought maybe you guys have another idea what the problem could be or what else I could try to solve the problem. Thanks a lot!

Best regards
Björn

Yes I already did, as I mentioned in the last paragraph :)
But maybe there are more users out there having the same problem. And sometimes "swarm intelligence" does work :)

I had thought about upgrading but this changed my mind. Thanks for your post! I get soooo many of these notices so it would be nice if you could change the subject line to something crash specific, such as 'Camtasia 2020 crash progress report'. Be safe!

Good morning! I assume that if you've reached out to support you will get this information from them as well but for the benefit of others: we have published a 2020.0.1 version that fixes a couple of startup crashes in addition to adding a couple of lifestyle improvements:
https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006443267%C2%A0

This is the version you will get as of today if you download the Windows build from https://www.techsmith.com/download/camtasia/

Please let us know whether or not this resolves the issue for you! Thanks, and sorry about any inconvenience.
