How can I immediately copy screen capture to clipboard? (Win and Mac)

Hi. The most common thing I do in SnagIt is take a partial screen capture so that I can paste a picture into an email. It wastes my time to have to go to the main snagit screen to have to do this.  I typically forget that's required, go to the email, paste the wrong thing, then have to return to Snagit.  Please add a shortcut on the capture screen to capture the image and immediately copy it to the clipboard in a single click. Thanks.

OK, I found how to do it.  On the screen capture slide out, there's a settings gear.  Under "more preferences" there's a checkbox to "always copy captures to clipboard."

I can't find it. :-( Can you post a screenshot? I would love that function very much when I do screenshots at work!

The only fun was - using a different screen capture tool to interactively capture THIS screen capture tool while it's in action. ;-)

Hi,

There's a neat little setting that's actually shown in your screenshot called "Hide Snagit when capturing". If you turn that off, you can use Snagit to capture Snagit :)

You need to Save your changes by clicking On the Blue folder I circled in Green for changes to take effect. See Image Below.

That looks different from current version 2018, with the slider buttons.  Doesn't anybody ever update the conversation under a new company posting?  Are the sliders ON or OFF when they are BLUE.  WHY isn't there a help that actually says this?

Hi everyone, thanks for helping each other and asking these questions!
I just wanted to jump in with another little-known tidbit. There actually is a way to have Snagit "snag" itself for both Windows and Mac. There's an option in preferences to disable Snagit from hiding during the capture. Here it is on Mac. At work, when we have to document Snagit another trick we sometimes use is making a video and record the workflow in question and then extract the frames.

Anyway, for a very long time I never knew how to capture Snagit with Snagit so I wanted to share.

Have a great day!

Hi all- Great news! In the new Snagit 13 (Win) and Snagit 4 (Mac) released today there’s now an easy way to send a capture to the clipboard AND into the editor...without opening the editor. The new capture window has two simple toggles so you can set these options on the fly and change them whenever you like.

You can also bake the settings into a preset (what used to be called profile), which can be triggered by a hotkey, a click on the preset, or the big, red button. Here’s how to create presets in Snagit 13 and Snagit 4.

Thanks for sharing your suggestions and details about your workflow...and thanks for your patience! Personally, this is one of my favorite features of the new version because my most common workflow (capture-paste) is super fast but when I do need to edit or mark up, the capture is right there in Editor. Best of both worlds!

Next steps:

This is nice, although I had to come here to find it.  It would be good if these settings were in the settings window instead of in this capture window. Or both.

"two simple toggles" - which is ON and which is OFF.  And it doesn't work on 2018.0.1 Nov 7 2017 that I have!!!   Put me down as an "UNLIKE"

To answer your question about updating the images. Keep in mind that where we are communicating is nothing more than a forum where all kinds of people such as yourself are posting asking questions and all kinds of other people such as myself are trying to help.

While a post may help many others down the line, it will eventually and invariably become outdated as new versions of the software are created appear. This is one reason why it is often good to start a new thread.

Cheers... Rick :)

Hi,

I have the Snagit Version 2018.2.1 (90446), and I don't see this setting to enable copy to clipboard in the settings. Here is an image of what I see in my settings.

Hi, do you have effects selected? Effects are an editing feature, so preview in editor is required if effects are enabled.

SnagIt Reps, you are missing the point of the original question.  There is an extra step for SnagIt that does not exist in Snipping Tool, which makes Snipping Tool easier/faster to use.  After clicking "Capture", and then bordering the image, there is a needless step in SnagIt requiring one to then click on "Capture an image" to put it in a clipboard, only then can you paste it to another document.  In Snipping Tool, after you border the image, it automatically is saved to a clipboard and you can directly then paste to another document.  In SnagIt, even with "Copy to Clipboard" on, you still have to click on the "Capture an image" icon to put it in clipboard.  I'm using Version 2019.0.1 (64 Bit).

Hi Mike - thanks for using Snagit and for posting. Use the settings shown below in 1. and 2. to get the workflow you're talking about. As soon as you release the mouse button after dragging out your selection, the image is on the clipboard.

Another option is to click the little + sign by the Presets button to save these settings as a Preset, as shown in 3. Then you can trigger this kind of "direct to clipboard" capture using a custom hotkey (in my example, CMD-Shft-9 but you can make it anything you want).

Thanks Daniel. Ok, have to be in Image section. But it opens Editor when I do that and the Preview in Editor button is locked on, cannot turn it off.

Hi Mike - I can't seem to reproduce that inability to turn off Preview in Editor. Any chance you can update to 2019.1.2 and try again?
