In Camtasia 3 for Mac, is there a way to import Camtasia templates/project files into an existing screencast project?
I downloaded some of Camtasia's free video assets and noticed some lower thirds I liked. I tried to import them, but it seems the software cannot do it. It is weird that I get access to interesting templates for free, but I cannot use them because I cannot get it into the project I am working on. Any help on this would help me out a lot.

I found a form post on merging two projects together using a copy and paste timelines. It did what I needed, but I am not thrilled about it. By copying everything on one project's timeline and past it in a different project is not very efficient. It is a pity Camtasia does not have a "Save as Template" to make custom templates like any other software. At least, have a project merge as a import option. For now, this will have to do.

Hey Brett,
I also have the same issue with C3. What I've done is taken one of the intro CMPROJ files from C3 and I use that as my opening credits. If I really want it as part of the main sequence, I output the MP4 and then simply bring that into my main project as a media asset. But it would be good to have the ability to merge CMPROJ files...

Hi, Joe,
You can merge two projects together, but it is a COPY & PASTE way of doing it. I discovered it on this other form titled, "Merging Two Camtasia Mac Projects into a Single Project File." I tested it out and it does work. I just wished Camtasia could import/merge projects together by an import project command or something similar.
The way you do this "copy and paste" way is to have both projects open. Lets say one is the template and the second one is the new work in progress (WIP) screencast project. In the template project, select everything in the timeline (Command + A) and copy the complete timeline of the template (Command + C). In the WIP screencast project, paste the template timeline into the WIP's timeline by doing a Command + V. You Should now have two projects merge together. After pasting the template's timeline into the WIP project, the WIP project will copy all media assets used in the template project, so you do not have to worry about having offline media.
If I did not explain this well, check out the form I mentioned above. I will most likely do a screencast about this at some point. But, I'm not sure when this will happen. For now, this is my best answer.

I put together for you guys a quick overview of how to do the copy and paste method (with some extra techniques) for reusing elements across various project:

Thanks for the overview video! From my own tests, I pretty much did what you did in your video before I saw the screencast. I did like how you put your elements in a group before coping the template into a new project. That will make is better streamlined in the edit.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

I want to join 2 project files in C9. Like importing a media file, except it's another project file with edits for my main project file. Can this be done? How to do it? I tried importing the zipped project file but it automatically replaced the one on the timeline. ...Thanks

Likely that project has several asset files. Images, Video files, TREC files. You just need to note where those assets are stored, then add them to your Media bin in the larger or master project.

I guess I misunderstood the question. It sounded like he was trying to import an asset he downloaded.
Great answers on how to move over information without a Library in CMAC3.
