Import of Zipped Project FIle on Win10, Cam9 has an Error w/ project file

I exported a project to a .zip file and edited in Cam9 on another Win10 machine. Either while I was editing the project or when I created a .zip file to take it back to the first machine, I made a slight name change. Now I am back at the original computer where I made the recordings in the first place.

When I try to import the zipped project, I get an error for an invalid project fie. I don't want to waste all my work and go back to the first project that is unedited. How can I recover the project with the never name??? Camtasia shouldn't care, should it?

I believe that a project file records all the changes wile the trec remains he same. Can I somehow take the tscproj file, open it in Camtasia and then import all the trec files, one at a time? Thanks.

just to be sure ... you started with a Camtasia 9 project on a Win 10 PC, zipped that project, and on a different Win 10 PC, you imported the zip into Camtasia 9, did editing, maybe changed a name [was it the project name?], zipped the project again, and back on the 1st Win 10 PC, you imported that new zip, and tried opening  it, but got the error ... am I right so far?

when you zip a project file, it should use whatever the existing project file name was; the zip file usually inherits that same name; do the 2 zip files have the same name?

look in the extracted files folder and note the [new?] project file name?

back on the PC where you did the editing, look into the extracted files folder, note the original project name

are they the same?

open each tscproj project file with a text editor, like free Notepad++; look at the info on the 1st 10 lines or so; do they both refer to the same versions?

please advise

another thing you can try ...

right click on the 2nd zip and select extract all, put those files in their own folder

compare the files in that extracted folder with those on the editing PC

alternatively, put both zips on screencast.com so I can download and compare them myself?

I changed the project name. The tscproj file has a different name in the new .zip file than it did in the original .zip file. Is that a problem.? Thanks.

I think I have one too many copies of the same file. However, on screencast.com, both .zip files start with Final-FindingArticles-Chapters-and-More.
The original .zip file ends with 08312018.zp.
The new, edited version ends with 11262018.zip

Thanks for your help.

I've seen you mention that Beyond Compare program before and by your "fix" video
I can see having that in the toolbox would be a good thing to have.

I'll have to get it and give it a better look over.

Does it have a major learning curve?

Good job on fixing that archive.

thanks, Dubie

BC4 is very sophisticated, it can do a lot, I still don't know how to use most of it; but it's basics are very easy to learn ...

https://www.scootersoftware.com/bobjones/BC4-TheBasics/BC4-TheBasics_player.html

they have an excellent help file, and their free tech support is first rate

I believe they offer a 30 day free trial; you will want the pro version because it has an excellent FTP-like capability

I have hosted a number of tutorials [on sc.com] that cover using it to solve some challenging screencasting stuff; just hit my sc.com "tutorials" folder and filter for beyond compare

I've been using it for 10 years; couldn't do my video work without it

I must admit, I was certain you couldn't save a corrupt zip file, and you did.

That's pretty slick.

I would not save a corrupt .zip file if I knew it was corrupt. I know better than to do that.

Yes, this appears to be okay. Thanks much. What was wrong? Just the file name? Thanks. I assume now that I can add in the other trec files I need int he project. I followed your previous advice and did a short tutorial in several small pieces.
