Imported DSLR .AVI Files Will Not Render At All

In Camtasia Studio my videos will not export at all when I am using an HD .avi file in the project.

Regular screencasts export just fine and can be uploaded to youtube easily.

But when I include an imported .avi file in the project, here's what happens: it "renders" in about 1 second and then takes me to the html file in my browser, pressing play makes nothing happen, and there is no MP4 video file in the folder it is supposed to be saved to- just all the other css files, configs, etc.

These .avi files are videos I shot originally in .mov form on my Canon t4i DSLR, and then I put them in After Effects to add some chroma key effects(ones that are beyond the scope of doing just in Camtasia) and exported them to .avi files. They import fine to camtasia but it refuses to export them properly.

Can anyone clue me in to why I'm having this problem?

  • Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
  • I HAVE WINDOWS 8
  • Microsoft DirectX 9 or later version
  • I HAVE DIRECTX 11
  • Microsoft .NET 4.0 Client Profile (included)
  • Dual-core processor minimum ~ Recommended: Quad-core processor or better
  • I HAVE 3 CORES
  • 2 GB RAM minimum ~ Recommended: 4 GB or more
  • I HAVE 4GB RAM
  • 2 GB of hard-disk space for program installation
  • I HAVE 440 GB HARD DISK SPACE
  • Display dimensions of 1024x768 or greater
  • IM SURE I HAVE THIS
  • Dedicated Windows-compatible sound card, microphone, and speakers (recommended)
  • NOT SURE ON THIS BUT ITS ONLY RECOMMENDED

Those are the requirements and what I have compared to them. I'm sure I have everything because I doubled checked with HP support. I have an HP-2000 laptop.

The only thing I'm unsure about is the Microsfot .NET 4.0 Client Profile, but it says "included" in the requirements list. So does that come with Camtasia?

Also, when I open a project I saved with a DV file in it a lot of the times the program just stops working and has to close.

Thanks for the help.
