Hi there

Odds are the MP3 needs to be transcoded to a different format.

Cheers... Rick :)

What are the audio file types that Camtasia will support?

Hello, Prakash, and sorry to hear of your troubles.

Camtasia does indeed support the MP3 format, however, not all MP3's are created equally. As Rick mentioned you will likely need to transcode the MP3 file (we recommend the WAV format).

Likely your file contains some sort of DRM (possible, pending where you purchased it/received it from), or, more likely it contains an extremely high sample rate and frequency as well as being a variable bitrate MP3; these are what can trip up Camtasia on occasion. Transcoding to WAV should address the issue for you.

Let me know if that works out for you!

Hello, Papi;

Try transcoding as Rick mentioned; you can use the free application Audacity to open the MP3 file up then export it as a supported WAV file (import the MP3 then go to File - Export in Audacity).

Hi, I have a different problem with in MP3. I recorded and edited a voice over in audacity and when I import it into Camtasia, the timing is all off and seems flexible. I timed the slide to the imported recording, but when I played them, they didn't match the times. Is there a solution. This used to work. I solved the problem by using a WAV file, but this doesn't help if I have to edit old videos.

Hi there

As I understand it, WAV is the preferred and most reliable format.

Here is an image that is regularly posted by Joe.

Hello there perryawilson,

If you want to edit an older video and the audio is giving you the same problem you have described. There is an easy way to get around it using Camtasia.

Camtasia can convert the audio to .wav for you. It will also be converted to 44.100 Hz 16 bit audio. That format is the holy grail  to Camtasia and no other format is more compatible.

Just import the video into the clip bin and place it on the timeline. Then export the audio to a .wav file.
See Image Below, Click to Enlarge.

Then import the new audio file.
Right click on video on the timeline and choose separate video and audio.

Delete the separated audio track and replace it with the new file.

Regards, Joe
