The best option you'll have is to record audio manually and import it afterwards. Sound quality is not in the scope of Camtasia If they would extend audio with compressors companies and noice gates the software would be additionaly cost a thousand bucks.

You can use Audiacity or Adobe audition to improve your audio drastically.

thank you for your speedy response.....

AFTER the recording has already been made??

even a slight reduction in the echo would be great

In general. Export audio from Camtasia.
Import it to the audio software
Improve safe and export the result.
Reimport it and delete the original sound.

In Camtasia itself you can try to use noice reduction and pump up the volume a bit. But this will end with bad audio quality in general.

Hi Karen;

What type of audio did you intend to record, the microphone or your system audio (e.g. "the audio coming out of the speakers")?

Robert, thank you...

  i was recording a skype call/screenshare..

i do this very frequently - this is the first time getting
an echo

i have learned that, if i keep my headset on my desktop,
my voice doesn't blow me out of the water on playback

i record my mic and system audio (ALWAYS)

If you are using a microphone and have speakers also going you can/will get a echo effect from feedback.

So if you are recording narration with a microphone turn off the speakers and use a headset if you need to also hear the sound.

thank you....

what i've learned is, if i want to record the audio from other people on
a skype call   - i MUST keep all sound coming through the speakers -
NOT headset

Well that depends on your setup and how you configure things Before you record.

My setup consist of a speaker system with it own volume control or I can control the master volume on the computer.

A Marantz boom mic setup and
A Gigawave headset w-mic
and Sony headset with no mic
Logitech webcam w-mic

If you are recording using a mic and also have sound emitting from the speakers, your mic is going to pick up the speakers sound and be recording it again thus resulting in possible distorted audio. ie; echo, garbled, muffled etc.

That is why if you watch a podcast every one has a headset or earbuds on.
Can you imagine all that cross sound being recorded multiple times?

I have recorded conversations with me using the boom mic and my headset ( so I can here the other participants ) and all was recorded without issues.

In your computer sound setting you have to set the sound output to use the headset and the input to be your mic whether it be a usb mic or the one on your headset. Your choice.

In Windows 10

Then in Camtasia you select your mic and system audio.

The system audio should output to your headset and be recorded in Camtasia since that is what you set in the computer sound setting to use.

Do a test and see.  This is how it has worked for me.

For other videos where I am playing some music but not using the mic and doing a recording I have the computer sound output put back to my speaker system.

I am not saying that for sure this is the reason for your echo problem it is just a maybe could be.

I can be sure though that if your mic is picking up your speakers and all the is getting recorded things will not sound good.

@dubie That's correct. But the question cold also be interested as. Why have I bought Software for some 100 bucks and didn't get more tools that help me to produce cristal clear audio.

Shouldn't be Camtasia studio at least provide the same tools for noice reduction and audio Quality pilling as Adobe Audition does at least for spoken audio.

I am not sure if you're employed with Rechsmith but if so you should ask some responsives what they think they could do to solve this problem.

It should be your goal to sell the best software for education Video Out there. And Audio in the opinion of many people is in fact the number one quality factor for a good video. So in my personal opinion The should keep an Eye on such approvements and roll them out quickly to the worldwide Camtasia Community within the software itself.

First off I do not work for nor am i associated with Techsmith. I'm just another user of many years of their products.

My post above was just another suggestion of a possible reason and fact of what could be causing the issue.

I have worked with video and audio for a long time and no software can fix bad practices.
I am not pointing blame on anybody here either,  just stating the facts.

Bad in, Bad out . It has to start with trying to get the best quality from the get go and eliminate as much as one can from having to fix things later.

P.S I agree that the audio tools in Camtasia are less than basic IMO and need to be improved. You'll get no argument from me on that.
