The mag tool is too limited. I need more shapes. Oval, not just circle shape. A way to freeze under mag area and then move mag area to the side it's horrible to do it manually now

If you use it from the top toolbar, you are limited to a round thing
If you make a selection any way you want and in any shape (from the top menu) and THEN go over to effects on the bottom right and choose spotlight and magnify, you can do what you wanted to do
Just try it. Make a weird freehand selection and then effects / spotlight and magnify and play with the controls that drop down
The magnify in the top menu is extremely limited and good for something quick and dirty

I agree that this tool could stand some improvement. One thing I love about the Magnify tool that the Spotlight tool doesn't offer is the ability to have a colored line surround the magnified area.

One "limitation" that seems frustrating with this tool appears when you want to magnify something near an edge. One thing that helps if you are trying to do this is to turn on the ability for the canvas to expand. You do this by clicking Edit > Editor Preferences... > Editor tab. There you will find the option to toggle on the automatic canvas expansion.

It would be nice if TechSmith gave us a temporary modifier keystroke that allowed temporarily turning this feature on where it could remain off most of the time, but when needed we could have it without first having to change the settings of the editor.

Cheers... Rick :)
