Increase Number of Recent Captures Shown In Editor

Guys, David posted about this problem nearly a year ago and from what I can see, other users also have this problem as well.  More recent versions of SnagIt restrict the number of recent captures shown in Editor to 15Why???

While this is very annoying, almost as annoying was your approach to solving the problem when David posted about it.  In your response to him, you suggested that he have his colleagues up-vote his problem.  Seriously???  We don't have the time to start a marketing campaign.  Please change this lame method of dealing with problems.  Instead, have your IT people record the number searches made for this solution on your site.  Even that may also not give you a sense of the scope of an issue.  I typically do broader searches using Google rather than going to any company's product website.

Anyway, please change this aspect of editor.  It can't be that hard, yet it's extremely annoying to have to dig around in the library to find my old captures.  I think just about every user would tell you they save these captures elsewhere and DO NOT want to use the library as the final source of their captures.  By limiting the number of recent captures, I have to go back to try to figure out which captures I've saved to my folders and which I have not.  It's very time-consuming and unnecessary.

I've been a SnagIt user for more then a decade, yet I'm reluctant to recommend it to my colleagues for this and other issues I've been dealing with in the past few years (like the constant hanging on websites).  I would return to my previous version if only it didn't hang so frequently on so many websites.

Ironically enough, I attempted to screen-capture this post but SnagIt keeps getting confused by the scrolling window that allows me to choose related categories.  Instead I have to use a competing program which I frequently recommend to my colleagues.

A limit of 15 wouldn't be an issue if there was a seamless integration with the library such that when you got to the earliest in the tray there was a right pointing chevron that loaded the previous n images from the library, and a corresponding one the other end to take you back.  Like the image below.  With current computers that's hardly a big task

But here's something weird.  When preparing the screenshot for this reply I discovered that my tray currently has 24 entries.  To which the only possible comment is, "Huh?"

Interesting;  just noticed this 2018 setting- Snagit Editor Preferences / Maximum recent files accepts any number between 1-15. I'd think it would be simple to change that out?

Just checked SnagIt 12.3.2 on another PC and it was displaying 25 in the tray and the parameter there appears to be 'How often should Snagit remove items from the Open Captures Tray?' [slider: Less Often.......... More Often] I made mine Less Often.

Perhaps a company person can chime in to explain this change in the 2018 version...

Paul, could it be because you are using small thumbnails?

Nice idea but no.  I was, in fact, using medium thumbs.  I switched to large thumbs and the tray count is still 24,

Hi Timbre4 - It sounds like you use Snagit to output to a single source, so yeah, this feature wouldn't matter that much to you.  I typically capture anywhere from 10-50 screenshots a day; but because they're from a variety of sources and for a variety of clients, I'm constantly saving them to different folders for different uses (and renaming them so I can easily identify them).  I wonder which of us represents the majority of users (Perhaps you're right, maybe there are few uses who use SnagIt like I do), but isn't this such an easy feature to change that it can be done to make life easier for those of us who would like it.

I think Paul's suggestion that the option to load more captures into the recent captures area is a pretty good one.  Most importantly for me, I want to be able to quickly see which captures I've saved to my folders and which I have not.  Having to sort through the library is just too tedious.

No it's not a single output source but I think it's largely about deploying the captures almost immediately most of the time. (Share via Clipboard, PPT, Word, etc). If it's a document update (typically dozens or 100s of captures) I know which days (or week) these occurred so there really is no difficulty for me fishing around.
