Is there any thoughts on making camtasia for the iPad? I have found no app or way to have the webcame record me as I do a screen recording like camtasia does. I know the best way to use these videos to teach is if the students can see me talking as I work through something on my iPad. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your idea Dave. Have you heard of or used Screenchomp? It is an iPad app from TechSmith that allows you to draw on a background like a whiteboard, or draw over an image (such as a PDF) and record audio as you are drawing. There is no camera recording, but it might work for your needs. You can find it in the App Store.

To better understand your needs for an iPad app, what types of things do you want to record on the iPad? What types of things do you want recorded by the camera? Just your face as you narrate or something else? Would you like to edit this on the iPad, or simply record a video and share it?

Thanks,

Here's my thoughts...

Must have:
- capture screen video and system audio.
- playback on ipad (why? because you don't always have a network connection)
- organise library of recordings for playback.

Nice to have:
- capture gestures.
- add tools to show gestures on recording either similar to camtasia today or add images of fingers (photos or icons) as new options.
- if can't automatically capture gestures then add later using above images.
- capture mic at the time of recording or add later.
- production on ipad would be nice but could live with doing it on separately on a pc initially.
- upload to dropbox
