Is a quiz required in a camtasia project to publish it as a SCORM?

I created a nice mp4 video with Camtasia. I placed it in our LMS as asked. However no one stated the reporting requirement. Our LMS does not seem to recognize it as just a video; no status is reported. We want to know if a learner opened it and if it is complete. I was hoping I could use my Camtasia project that I produced the mp4 with and publish it as a SCORM package and set a percentage of the video being watched as a completion threshold (like 80% or 100% of the video watched sends complete status to the LMS) . There are no questions in the project, and we don't want to add any to just produce it as a scorm. In Custom Production, my SCORM option is inactive and I assume this is because there is no question in the content. Can I create a scorm without a question? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have created several videos in the past for a major worldwide bank which was set just to record a threshold of 70% with no questions.  I delivered it as a SCORM package and as far as I know, it worked perfectly.  Of course, being a contractor, I didn't upload it into the LMS myself as that had to be done by the banks L&D team, so I didn't test it, but those guys are pretty quick to come back if it doesn't do what they were expecting.

Hello dbell,

A quiz is not required to use SCORM with Camtasia. Camtasia supports being able to assign a percentage to complete value for the video.  Can you answer a few questions for me?
  1. What version of Camtasia are you using?
  2. What LMS you are using?
  3. What version of SCORM are you creating your video in?
Even though we support the feature you described, I've found sometimes that feature works differently based on how the LMS has implemented SCORM support.

Thank you,
Ben

I made a quick video showing the process I use to produce a SCORM video with a project without a quiz.

If you follow the same steps do you still see the SCORM checkbox disabled?

First off thank you for replying and putting together the short video.

Yes, I used same steps but the checkbox and options button are inactive. Previously I was using Share>Custom Production>New Custom Production , but this time I used the steps in your video with the same (undesired) result.  I think these different processes are the same expected results.

Could it have to do with the way that I started this project? It was not intended to be a SCORM until we realized it needed to be tracked.

I'm at a loss for why that would be disabled.  Can you open a support ticket and see if our support staff can help you get to the cause of this? https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Thanks,
Ben

Couple of new things to note (but still unsuccessful):
  • I tried adding a quiz and producing a SCORM, but SCORM box was still inactive.
  • I tried a new project with a single object - still inactive.
  • The exact version of Camtasia is the current one - 2019. 0.7 (Build 5034)

I love camtasia, but most of my scorm work has been done in Captivate. I use camtasia often for recording webinars and enhancing them and publishing as nonSCORM mp4 and using them as resource videos. But now that I know Camtasia can (should) handle my project as a SCORM and set percentage threshold for completion has my curiosity up to use it more.

Please let me know if you can offer any more assistance.

If you have markers in your video make sure this option is unchecked.  SCORM is not supported with this option.

My project does have markers, so I was confident you found it, but unfortunately that did not work. I saved, unchecked it, closed and reopened camtasia, confirmed Multiple files based on markers was still unchecked, proceeded and SCORM was still inactive. I wrote a ticket.  https://support.techsmith.com/hc/requests/637231
Thanks,

Have you enabled the "Produce with controller" option on the earlier screen of the Production Wizard?

Seems I need to do that in order to enable the SCORM option on my setup.

Thanks Rick, that did it. I'm not sure if we'll want the navigation controls. I had them off in my settings when I was going to nonSCORM mp4. Thanks again.
