is it impossible to have a preset that will save capture to "file" destination with automatic name, fixed folder, and open in editor?

I want to hit "PrtScn" which will save it to my Pictures/Screenshots folder with name like PrtScn_2020-01-03_11-29_000, and immediately open it in SnagIt editor (so if I want to edit it, I can and then just CTRL-S to save with the same automatic name/location).   As far as I can tell:

  • Setting "Preview in Editor" causes the file to not save according to settings in the "File" destination.
  • Hitting CTRL-S to Save in the editor completely ignores the automatic filename setting.

Am I missing something here?

Set share to "file" and "automatic file name" and turn off "preview in editor".

Hmmm, I just tried configuring a preset with the options you are wanting. The only thing that seemed to fail for me was the folder location. The file name bit seemed to reflect what I configured in the preset.

As long as I switch to the location where I really want the file to be saved, it seems to simply "remember" that and use it again for subsequent saves.

Here are the preset settings I used:

I think if you click "Share" rather than CTRL-S it will take the settings you selected.
