Is it possible to skip sections of a video?

I have an instructional intro that I need to have on all of my videos, but users probably only need to watch it once. Is there a way to add a "Skip Intro" button and have the video jump to a particular spot? I've seen this functionality in a lot of online content, but I can't figure out how to do it in Camtasia.

Hi there

There sure is! You could insert a marker where the part you want to be able to skip over stops. Then at the beginning of the video, you insert a Hotspot callout that will jump to the marker when clicked.

However, there is a huge caveat. You must either host the video on ScreenCast.com, or upload it to your own web site with all the supporting player files. You cannot upload it to YouTube, Vimeo or other and expect it to work. Because it won't. The functionality relies totally on the supporting files Camtasia creates.

Cheers... Rick :)

Thanks for the quick response, Rick!

Our videos are hosted on Vimeo, so unfortunately that simple solution won't work for us. I didn't see any way to do this on Vimeo itself.

On a related topic, will hotspots work at all on Vimeo?

Nope, sorry.

I know YouTube has some functionality built in that allows some type of a hotspot linkage. Might be just to the channel itself. I know there is a way to link from YouTube to a web site. But all that is in the realm of YouTube after you upload.

I'm not sure if Vimeo offers anything similar. Might be worth looking into. If it does, then perhaps you could have an image you would add to your video, then overlay that with whatever the tool in Vimeo would be (if it exists) that might allow it.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks again, Rick. I'll check on the Vimeo forum.
