Is TechSmith Intentionally Hi-jacking this Fourm??? What's Going On???

It would appear that when a forum question is answered by TechSmith Personal.

FOR SOME REASON, Their response is now the only one that gets posted at the top of the page.

If you are a member of this forum. Your response will be posted but it will not appear at the top of the page.

In my opinion this is not a user friendly change. Is this a GLITCH, or Intentional???

I ran a couple of tests to demonstrate my point.   I checked all the forum categories while creating and posting this Question and/opinion about the change. Is this happening in all the Forums???

See Images Below, Click to Enlarge.

The Yellow highlights are TechSmith responses.

The Green Highlights user responses that are no longer being moved and easily seen by others.

Regards,Joe

Joe, when we reply, we may reply to the main thread or to one of the responses. I'm wondering if the behavior is different depending on where the reply is?

Either way, I'd be astonished to learn that TechSmith is "gaming" the system in any way. It's likely just some odd programmed behavior that the GetSatisfaction is showing.

Cheers... Rick :)

How long have you been a member of this forum??? This is not normal and should know it well.

I was simply asking the question.

I expected some cheerleading by some.

And a quicker response because of the way I asked my question.

LOL, as with anything, I'm really not sure how long I've really been participating here. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd notice that change because of the way I choose to engage. Personally, I simply subscribe to the categories I'm interested in (Camtasia and SnagIt) and when folks post, I see an email message. If it looks like something I might be able to assist with, I click the link to visit the thread, then reply. ;)

I wasn't really cheerleading (though I openly admit I'm a fan and likely do come off as a cheerleader). Moreover, I was simply suggesting what in my own mind may have been the cause. ;)

Hi regulars :)

I haven't noticed what Joe was saying, but it's not anything we're intentionally doing. It might be something Get Satisfaction (the creators of our forum) changed.

I know that TechSmith employees have the ability to flag something as an "Official Response" which will move it up to the top of the page, but we use that more for when we've solved some problem or want to make sure that an important answer isn't buried in the page. It's also different than the behavior you've posted here.

Hi,
Joe, we haven't done anything to hijack the forum or any pages. I mean, why would we? We rely on you and others to help out here to much!

I have the Get Sat admin looking into this to see if something on the Get Sat side has changed.

Kayakman, who did you lodge your complaint with so I can follow up?

I'll let you know if I find out anything, okay?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Kelly

PS - I am not seeing what you guys are seeing!

Hi,
Robert, our Get Sat admin, and I have been looking into this.
Neither he nor I are seeing the strange sorting issue.

Get Sat doesn't appear to have done any releases to their site over the last several months - unless they have done some silent or experimental release work we don't know about.

I have hear that Get Sat will release changes in testing out to a sample of the overall community so it is possible they have done something like this.

For now, please try and and clear your browser cache(s) to see if it corrects itself. Also, maybe try other browsers to see if the behavior is the same in each one.

Robert will continue to look into this to see if there is anything he can find out directly from Get Sat. However, it's late into the day and a lot of people are on vacation today to take advantage of the holiday weekend. So, it could be a while before we have any update on this.

And, just to confirm, TechSmith has not made any changes to our Get Sat account for quite some time. And, I'm not even sure if we could make changes to the sort behavior.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience of it all!!

We appreciate all your help in this forum and we would not want to get in your way by changing things up like this.

I'll keep you posted if/when I hear anything more.
And, if you find different browsers show different behaviors, let us know that so we can pass that on to Get Sat.

Have a great, and safe, holiday weekend!

I think I just like stirring things up sometimes. Gets the ball rolling.
No offence intended.
I have no problem when I use Google Chrome, all is normal.
Yahoo and Mozilla Firefox both have the problem. The browser cache was cleared.

Thanks for looking into it. I was hoping it could be resolved before the long weekend.

So, apparently things are a bit messed up for me as well.
If I use the Community Home link as my starting page, all is well with the sorting.
If I use the Camtasia Studio or Snagit Windows category link to go to those pages, the sort is messed up.
No other categories are messed up for me no matter how I get to them.

I am just relieved, we can rule out the possibility the Mr. Tech @Smith would be polishing knobs at  Get Satisfaction  by greasing palms.

Hello, any updates on this user forum glitch? I can click on the home page and see responses in the order they are received. The problem with that is all forums are included. That's to much information to wade through. For a day Google Chrome worked correctly. Not anymore.

It looks like the problem is getting worse. Now a topic without a response from a month ago tops the SnagIt for windows page.

this is still messed up; only workaround when signing in to Camtasia threads is to execute an advanced search; sort with most recent first, I just pull last 7 days

PITA factor is too high

now "DisSatisfaction"

Hmmm, and in looking at that image, I'm noticing that the topics you show all have zero responses. I know over on the Adobe side of the world, their folks in charge of forums have been really pushing those of us that help to ensure all questions are answered. Engage engage engage. As if it will be some magickal cure for customer satisfaction.

Not claiming TechSmith is behind this, but perhaps the GetSatisfaction folks have managed to drink the same kool aid that Adobe's been drinking. ;)

Cheers... Rick :)

I get a different, scrambled list, not all with 0 replies

if I answer a thread, I can use the pld sign-in URL, and usually my new response is listed first, but the rest of the listing is a scrambled, worthless, mess

There all new, with the exception of the one listed on top. As it should be. But my response, your response, kayakman's response. Will be listed lower down the page.

In the Camtasia Windows forum this response will appear on page 2.

Hello all!

I just wanted to give an update on this. I've been looking into the Categories sorting and we here at TechSmith do not have any control over how the Categories are sorted. I found that when viewing the "All" tab in a Category shows this behavior, however when you view one of the sorted lists (such as Questions or Problems) the lists are sorted properly. I also dug into any changelogs I could find regarding the forum and there is no information whatsoever on the content (note though, that the last changelog I found was from 2013 ...)

As we do not have control of how the "All" view sorts, the recommendation for the time being will be to view the Categories then visit the sorted tabs that you would normally access (based on reply histories it appears that the mass-majority of the posts by everyone here are in the Problems and Questions categories).

If and when we find out more we will certainly update everyone though we are at this time, still researching where, when and how this change was applied.

Thanks for all of your support!

Robert

this behavior manifested last week; so the GetSatisfaction gang must have changed something

original behavior was to open list with sort defaulted to most recent first, with all responses listed]

IMHO, TechSmith should demand that GetSatisfaction fix this ASAP!

better yet, set up a better forum

I have started a conversation in Get Satisfaction's own community about this issue. I referenced this thread so they should be able to see all of our comments here.

Lets hope it gets fixed fast.

Well that would be welcome news indeed! It's just that my own experiences with these third party forum folks (GetSatisfaction, Jive, etc) has been, well... ;)

Suffice it to say I'm happy if it's been fixed. Yay!
