Is there a maximum file size for a recording?

I've used Windows versions of Camtasia off and on over the years. Recently moved to the Mac world due to work. I have a work license for Mac version 3. This morning I was doing my first real screencast and after about 15 minutes of recording I started getting "running out of disk space" errors from Mac OS X and Camtasia.   

I was switching windows here and there trying to figure things out. And I can't remember if I stopped the recording or if Camtasia stopped the recording by itself. 

I checked out the .trec file and it was about 7.99Gb big. This is not too surprising. I was recording both the 15 inch macbook screen and my webcam in 1080p, plus both system audio and microphone audio 

But here's where it get's weird. I went into About This Mac, checked out storage and it shows that I still have 60Gb of free disk space! 

So my question is, is there a maximum file size for a trec file? Are there any other settings in camtasia that would cause it to limit the file size? 

I am pretty much still a newbie to the mac world, so I'm also willing to believe I've got somthing configured wrong in OS X, although I can't imagine what it would be.

Generally, free disk space and the location you save to, is in itself, the limitation.
Although, a power outage or similar glitch can certainly corrupt a long recording session. I'm a Windows user myself so I'm of little help. I will say that Tech support knows Mac better than both of us apparently.I'd try running this by them.

thanks for the info. I would have expected that there is no camtasia imposed file size limit and that the only limit is the OS file system. And I did some digging into these forums and I see people mentioning 24Gb .trec files. 

So it's a mystery about what went wrong this morning. But I'm willing to believe it was "user error" this time. But next when I re-record my screencast, I'm gonna check free disk space before I get started just to make sure. 

So I'm going to hold off opening a ticket until I see the problem a second time.

That does sound odd; as you said, that's a relatively reasonable size for the long recording, but it shouldn't have taken up 60gigs, so not sure what happened, especially since OSX was also complaining about the lack of space. Good luck and let us know if it goes awry again.
