Is there a way to export a mouse/cursor only animation?

Hi, I have a seemingly unique question and I can't seem to find information on.

I would like to know if it's possible to export only the mouse movements in a recording to. So all that would be in the video file is a blank video and the mouse moving around the screen.

It seems to me that the xy coordinate data from the mouse is recording because of how the  "mouse smoothing" feature is able to work so it seems possible.

This would be extremely helpful as I need the mouse pointer to exist outside of a frame I've created in this design, look over to the right near the scroll bar.

Currently, the only way to do that now is to rotoscope each instance in which the mouse goes outside of my border

Anyone have any ideas on how I could get a mouse pass rendered out or access the raw data?

How To Record Just Mouse Movements And Clicks 2020-06-10

I occasionally get Recorder captures where the mouse is missing; this technique works for short video segments; gets easier with practice

Hey Kayakman, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. That's quite an Interesting method but unfortunately, I don't think it would work for me. I have product demo with a lot of cursor movement. And I would probably be able to animate the entire cursor movement in After Effects faster than I could the go back and forth with this method as it seems a bit tedious.

The solution I'm seeking is how to access the x, y data or export out a vector path. I could take that and import it directly into the AE and sync animation.

Camtasia is definitely recording it because of the way the cursor smoothing feature works, would be great to have a way to export that path.

Have you tried contacting support?

The cursor location is saved as a DAT file while capturing to .trec

The image below is a .trec recording in progress. Its a temporary file.

When you save it, it all gets bundled together.
I have no idea how extractable that information may be? Or how useful.

Regards,Joe

@justin

I revisited this issue this afternoon, and came up with a much simpler way to do; certainly not as fast as being able to use captured cursor data, but might work for some situations

no need to role capture over a black canvas; requires only a single capture of 1 mouse click, and a saved frame of same

how I did it ...

@kayakman,

Wow, you are thorough! This is quite the solution, but again I think animating in After Effect is still going to be much faster overall for me at least.

I don't know the Camtasia editing suite that well and I've found the general editing overall to be quite confusing to me. It may be the 20 or so years I've spent in various NLE editing systems and have become quite accustomed to.

Thanks again for trying to solve this for me.

no argument from me re your thoughts regarding After Affects

I don't know it at all

should you ever do a screecast showing you putting it through its paces, I'd like to see it, if possible

I've been using this cursor thing to do some R&D tutorial work, so it's been a good exercise regardless

good luck with your project
