Is there a way to separate background music from a voiceover?

I have separated the audio and video on an MP4 I imported into a Camtasia project. The audio consists of both background music and spoken words. Is there a way to further split those two aspects of the audio, either in Camtasia or in some other program? This is not an MP4 I created, and I have no access to the original files.

No, I'm afraid if the file (mp4) you got was already like that, then it's merged together.

That said, there are people who have tutorials on how to do this in a dedicated audio editing program like Audacity. While not necessarily easy, it may be possible:

There are also very sophisticated plug-ins for high end music production apps like Pro Tools and Logic Pro X that do this quickly. This one will work in the free Audacity program, although my audio pro friend tells me with mixed results: https://loudsoftware.com/?page_id=145

Thank you both. I'm going to give Audacity a try.
