Is there any way Camtasia can brighten a video? I have some videos recorded with my dash cam at early morning that I'd like to brighten a bit.
I'd ready this is not possible with Camtasia. Is that true? Is it something that will be added?

About the best thing I could find was to go to the Visual Properties and select Colorize and change the color to white...adjust accordingly.
Not ideal for sure. I use both Camtasia Studio and Camtasia Mac. I thought since CMac had this available that certainly CS would. However, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Thanks kurry. I tried that, but it turns everything to B/W. Can someone at Techsmith please respond? This should not be hard to implement...

I'd also like to see a reply from Techsmith support on this. It would seem like a pretty basic function.

I am not an employee but I can say that it is hard to do this with Camtasia Studio and maybe they could make it a Feature Request but for now you would be better off using a Video Editing Software that handles this better in my opinion and experience. I am not sure how hard it would be for them to program this into the software as I an not a software programmer or developer. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for your input Fred. It's just a pity that we have to go back and forth with different pieces of software, given all the other good features of Camtasia Studio.

Your welcome Robert and I would agree with you. Maybe they will change this to a feature request for us.

I was able to lighten my video using the suggestion made by kurrykid (thank you), but I'd really like to see a lighten/darken tool in Camtasia Studio.

You can drop a video into Microsoft Movie Maker and brighten the video there, then bring into Camtasia for final work.

I found a way to do this! You make a simple rectangle (fill white) covering the entire canvas, put it under the layer where the dark video is, set the dark video's opacity to a lower value. Done! Video is now brightened. A good value of opacity is between 90-95%. It is just enough for the video to not look too gray, or too dark.
Or you could just do the windows movie maker thing, but it increases contrast too much.

Another way is to change your canvas to white and then adjust opacity.

Brighten Videos.
It would make things a lot simpler if Camtasia had an option to make videos brighter and lighter. It makes things very difficult for us video editors that are constantly going from program to program just to make our videos lighter or darker. Adding this option would add a lot of value back into the Camtasia Studio Program.

I was writing a letter in Word the other day and needed to crunch some numbers. What a pain it was to have to use Excel instead of Word. You would think that Word should be able to do everything that Excel can do. Same thing with Access. I don't understand why one piece of software that does one thing really well can't do everything. A great screen recorder like Camtasia should be able to do all sorts of video editing functions--3-D motion graphics too. Come on, Techsmith! Maybe someday someone will write a computer program that will do everything we could possibly ever want in a mediocre fashion. That would be so much better than multiple pieces of software that do one thing extremely well.

That's not what I was asking - this is a basic video editing function. I don't think I'm asking for the world here.

This is basic, Mr. Tom. You do want to be able to edit tables in Word, don't you?

I can understand how this feature would be helpful, along with maybe some other filters. Make sure to +1 this thread: https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/more_video_filters This info will be passed along to our devs. Thanks!

Thanks for the requests. Camtasia Studio has grown up as a screen recorder. When the source footage comes from the screen, you get exactly what is shown on the screen. It's no lighter or darker than what you saw on screen during recording. But as cameras have become more and more common, the mixture of screen video with camera video has become the norm, and the need for brightness and other color adjustments has increased.
We are listening, and we'd like to hear from you. Please make sure to +1 this thread as David suggested if you'd like to see this feature. Bonus points if you tell us why this feature be valuable to you. We're always weighing the requests against our available time, and trying to add the features you'd find most valuable.
Thanks again for your continued feedback.

[enhancement of Facebook comment] I
notice that such a feature appears in far lower end multimedia
management programs such as Serif MoviePlus X6. Such video enhancement
capabilities, as with the integrated audio enhancement capabilities are a
competitive liability for Camtasia Studio v8.2. I believe that integration of some simple video controls such as is currently available with audio equalization and adjustment in Camtasia v8.2 are worth the time to integrate.
This is one area that pushes people to the much higher cost Adobe Premiere product and their "Creative Cloud". 95% of our work is doable with Camtasia Studio at the large computer company I work for. The audio and integrated Flash controller output enhancements in CS v8 were VERY well received and spurred at least 15 licenses purchased from our part of the company last year. I suspect that a similar implementation of video contrast control and perhaps histogram based brightness enhancement as in many simple digital cameras would be very well received and result in at least half again that increase this year.

After I posted this I was just reminded today that many staff are moving to HP laptops which have integrated a version of the Cyberlink products for several years. For them the upgrade path is inexpensive and erodes some of the interest in Camtasia Studio for HP laptop owners. However, our team positions Camtasia Studio as a very effective tool for creating enhanced educational videos especially using the Adobe Flash output, closed captioning, quizzes, and table of contents with marker pages not available in the lower end video editing suites, and a much more cost effective solution where multiple cameras and very high definition video (4K) is managed.
Whenever possible, if the source is a PowerPoint presentation plus screen capture, we seek to run the integrated PPT capture add-in program for the hours of time it saves in later creating those marker pages! It would be VERY helpful to have pointers to any presentations that positions Techsmith Camtasia Studio with the entry level video editing such as Cyberlink and high end integrated video management software such as Adobe Premiere.

I agree with Mark S that Camtasia's lack of
video correction capabilities is a big downside. I purchased CS v8 because the
lower-end products, while more than ample for video editing, do not
do screen capture. I was hoping CS v8 would be my one-stop-shop for both
screen capture and video editing. At first glance, it appeared so, but
having worked with the clips from my HD camera, I now desperately want to add
color correction. Something as basic as brightness would be great. Even the
free Windows Live Movie Maker does that! Now I’m struggling to find a suitable stand-alone
color correction program that doesn’t break my budget. Any recommendations?

Hey Mark,
Our presentation materials typically don't position Camtasia amongst other video editors (something for us to consider possibly...) Our new website www.techsmith.com provides lots of great new material that you can bring to your colleagues. I would also recommend downloading the free trial, because nothing speaks better than the software trial itself! Hope this helps!

Hi Dave and David, It's been 10-11 months since you guys responded and I was hoping to ask for an update from TechSmith on the status of this as a new feature - ability to change video color/brightness. Or are you guys waiting for more users to request this before putting it into development?

Hello everyone!
I am wondering is there any way to adjust brightness/contrast and sharpness of a video in Camtasia?
Remote recording sometimes gives quite a dark output which would need to be corrected.

Simple Video Color Correction.
Would be really nice to have some simple Video Color Correction. Some simple has just overall Brightness, Contrast, etc....
Sometimes when you output to a format like mp4 or mov using the h264 codec it gets washed out. So if prior to exporting the video if you had an option for some simple video color corrections that would help on the video output.

color correction in camtasia studio.
I would like some basic post-production edit tools in camtasia studio that would allow me to color correct my webcam video. I created a video that has a yellow color cast that I would like to fix. Thanks, Jeff

I'd really like to see an added feature for brightness..
Sometimes my gaming videos are too dark (like when I'm in a dark cave in Minecraft) so I'd really like to see a brightness feature added to CS8 possibly as an update.

I just had success brightening a very dark video, where you could barely see the subject's facial expressions. I used the Color Adjustment feature and the following settings. Brightness +24, Contrast +31, Saturation +31. You do lose some sharpness where light colors border on other white colors, but you can now see the subject's face very well.

I would love to be a tool which can increase the brightness and contrast of a video, why do tutorials software with very dark windows and without contrast then have this kind of tool would be very interesting for me and for everyone who would also make edits videos that were not in the screenshot. I hope this tool.

if Camtasia had basic quality adjustments I could use it as my video editor for marketing. Without them I'm back to Vegas and a free screen recorder.

CS8 it's a great video editor, but I have the same opinion about this missing feature. Some times when I try to edit a video with a poor brightness and contrast I must first adjust that properties with another video editor and then continue the project with camtasia. I think CS8 it's an almost-perfect video editing tool, but developers must satisfy our needs. This kind of minimal details makes the diference when we choose to acquire a program, and even more when it's paid for.

I would love these types of adjustments as much mix recording screen with camtasia recorded videos with my camera, and I need them or even Whiten escurecelos, please we want to present these new features in Camtasia studio.

This would be a great feature for me. I often compile video from other people with my own. Being able to get some normality between all of them is crucial to creating a smoother, uniform look.

ScreenFlow on Mac has a way to adjust the gamma (after the capture has taken place), so there is no excuse for Camtasia not
having it. It should be an adjustable setting at the global / canvas
level, and maybe at the video level as well (they already have a few
Color Adjustment and Colorize, go Gamma seems very doable).
