Issues with 8.2.0 ?

Updated 2 of my 5 computers with Camtasia Studio 8.2.0. I use many computers to render segments from big projects all at a time. Suddenly the two computers with 8.2 are having problems with renders, crash a lot (about 5 times more) and are very laggy. I'm wondering if I should just revert to 8.1.2 because I don't plan on using the new features anytime soon. Or is this known, aka is there a fix coming?

Hi. I'm using Windows 7 on the two computers with 8.2 and both Windows 7 and 8 on the ones with 8.1.2. One of the computers with 8.2 is brand new, with a 3.50 GHz i7 processor and 32Gb RAM.
I reverted to 8.1.2 on one computer and it fixed the rendering and lag problems right away.

This is a copy of the answer I received the other day. As far as improvements go, These new features are about it.

Kevin Mojek, Official Rep Yes, the two main things in this release are:
  • the ability to easily upload pictures and videos from a mobile device to Camtasia or Snagit via the new Fuse mobile app
  • Integration with Google Drive. For Camtasia, this means the ability to import files stored on Google Drive into the clip bin and have Google Drive as a production destination, similar to the YouTube and Screencast.com production paths

That seems like a very minor upgrade (atleast to me). I wonder why they named it 8.2 instead of 8.1.x  ?

Depends on your perception and the importance you'd give to the features. In my point of view, calling it 8.2 seems justified. Not that I'll be using Fuse or the Google Drive implementation, but the changes do have quite an impact on the overall capabilities of the program. Had they called it Camtasia Studio 9, though, I would absolutely agree.

Nonetheless, as far as I'm concerned all my computers are back to 8.1.2 until I can be sure that I can upgrade without losing any productivity.

I just downloaded 8.2 and can not open projects that worked fine in 8.1.2... I get an alert message when I try to open the project " Camtasia Studio encountered problems trying to load your project. Please review the recovered project for errors" and the project timeline is empty and the .mov file in the Clip Bin is not visible.

How do I downgrade back to 8.1.2?

Easy if you still have the 8.1.2 setup files. You can uninstall through "Programs and features" in your control panel. Then, install 8.1.2 from your old install file. That's what I did.

If you don't have the file, you should contact Techsmith maybe they can provide it for you. They are very helpful.

My apologies to anyone who has experienced problems with version 8.2.0.  Thank you to those who worked with our TechSupport staff to help us isolate the problem.  We did find an issue with 8.2.0 where memory was not being reclaimed correctly as the play head passed media files on the timeline.  This led to unusually high memory usage and instability in the 8.2.0 release.  We've fixed the issue and added automated tests to ensure this bug does not occur in future releases.

Today we released version 8.2.1 which contains a fix for the high memory use issue, which has been at the root of many problems that have been reported with 8.2.0.  This is a free update, and recommended for all users.  You can use the Help > Check for updates menu to get to the download.  After the download completes, close Camtasia Studio, then run the installer.  It will install the update, replacing your existing version and retaining all your settings.  You do not need to uninstall before running this update.

Again, my apologies to those of you who experienced problems with the 8.2.0 release.  Please continue to give us feedback, both positive and negative.  This helps us serve you better.
