It can very difficult to navigate with any degree of precision around large single file with TOC productions

The issues ...

If the production runs for 30 minutes or longer, and, if there are a lot of TOC items, when the video is playing, it is very difficult to use the player's progress bar scrubber to fine tune a jump-to-location within any given TOC section.  This is because the progress bar represents the total playing time of the entire single file video, and, with a lot of TOC items, the space between TOC items is represented by a very small span on the progress bar [cannot zoom in on the progress bar].  With productions that run 1 or 2 hours, or longer, with perhaps hundreds of TOC items, progress bar navigation can be almost impossible to do with any degree of precision.

The TOC enables a direct jump to the start of a section, but play does not begin automatically.  Also, the current selected item is not "marked" on the TOC [not highlighted], and, if there are so many TOC items that the TOC has a large scroll zone, then it is easy for a viewer to become "lost-in-space".

My solutions ...

My workaround for the "where am I in this video" question is to use "marquee callouts" that span each TOC section's play time and whose text is the TOC's title; i.e., the callout denotes the currently playing TOC item.

My workaround for the "navigate within a TOC item" issue is to use "marquee callouts with click-to-navigate hotspots".  These are go-to-time hotspots so play starts or continues automatically.

Using marquee callouts in a project is a simple matter; using them with click-to-navigate hotspots is another thing.

If curious, I have a tutorial about how to make and use hotspot marquee callouts ...
