I've created a Camtasia UI with Increased Legibility. Take a Peek

This is a direct comparison.

Be sure to view it at 100% resolution for maximum clarity.

I used fonts identical in size to the current ones.

The differences are increased Kerning and Leading, accompanied by greater legibility. The color is pure white.

Here’s the full Mock up

I don’t know how difficult it would be to replace the current ones?

I painstakingly matched the current fonts pixel for pixel.  With regards to “Height”. By using a different font, there’s some variances with regards to font width.

This required a lot of Photoshop. Using guides, rulers, masking, etc.  The new fonts were positioned precisely where the original ones were. I did have to re-center some elements due to the increased Kerning.

My take is this. TechSmith has used a font that is to bold. Most Letters and Numbers are either touching each other, or simply placed too close to one another.

To me this is the UI’s greatest discrepancy.

I’m not saying the Contrast couldn’t use improvement. Or even that the color scheme is Ideal.

In my mind this may be the simplest/quickest UI upgrade available in the short term.

What do you think, would you support this change?

Regards,Joe

Joe I can read your version using lower strength glasses and without the eye strain of the blurred front of Camtasia.

Great work.

I can see where the spacing and suchlike is a benefit and stuff is clearer and easier to read in that area where the massive block of text appears.

But if the mock up is also presenting changes for all the different text labels and suchlike, I honestly don't see much of a difference between the UI on my own setup and this one.

Your design is much more readable.  The Open Sans font is a bit like Microsoft's Calibri, but without the stroke variations that can make Calibri annoying.  I like the spacing.

Thank you Joe for your experiment! Hopefully the first of many to come from Techsmith!
