Jerky laggy video from iSight

I've been a long time Camtasia user and up until about three months ago I loved it! I produce instructional videos for a software package, which are mainly a screencast and then I also have myself (captured from the iSight camera on my iMac) in a bubble floating in the corner. Camtasia used to allow this by capturing the camera separately.

However, for the last month or two, the video captured from the iSight camera is choppy, lags far behind the audio, and is basically completely amateur-looking. It's driving me right up the wall, and also is going to drive me away from Camtasia, as I need the video to be captured properly for our deaf customers.

The computer is an i3 21.5" iMac with 12GB of RAM, and a 500GB HDD with approx 10% free. I'm using Camtasia 2.10.8 on OS 10.9.5. Hardware-wise I dare say an SSD would be quicker but I've run Blackmagic Speed Test on the disk and it's sitting at around 100MB/s write and 140MB/s read, which the app advises should be more than capable of 1080p60fps using ProRes. In fact the screen I'm capturing is 720p, and I think the iSight is theoretically 1080p, but I'm only asking Camtasia to do 30fps.

Please help!

Hi there,

I'm sorry you are having trouble.

In this instance, I think it would be best to talk with someone in Technical Support. I don't know if it was an update to your iSight camera that could be causing the trouble, or some other OS update, etc. However, something has changed since it used to work, and now it doesn't.

Our team can help you do some troubleshooting to see what could be causing this change in your process. Without some actual troubleshooting on your system, we would only be guessing as to how to help.

This is a free service, and they strive to get back to you within a day. You can submit a ticket on this page:
