Is there a way to jump into a multi-topic show in the middle somewhere?

If I have a single show with five main topics, I'd like to be able to create a link to open the show at a given time. Say I have a topic that begins 5 minutes in, and another topic that begins 10 minutes 32 seconds in. I'd like to be able to launch the show at whatever point I like.

People are getting used to this capability in (for example) YouTube.

This would be easiest if it could be done with markers (i.e., rather than saying "load this show at 10:32" say "load this show at marker #2).

if you do a custom production set to create multi files from markers, where the markers [TOC items] designate jump to points], you can do what you want using a query URL

if the production results in 10 separate MP4 files, the query URL to jump to the 5th file would videoname.html?movie=4 [it is a 0 based schema so 5th file is 4]

I have heard that you can do it with a time based URL if hosted on Screencast.com; I've not yet tried it; I think the URL needs to look like xxxx?yminzsec where y = time point in minutes and z = time point on seconds [like xxx?2min3sec]

perhaps a TechSmith person could clarify this?

Thanks for that, Bob -- I'll have to mull that over and see if I can fit it in with the rest of my design. Clarification from TechSmith person welcome.

Greg, I should have qualified my answer; the query URL approach requires using the classic controller [CS7]; sorry for any confusion.

I believe there have been several post in this forum re using the time URL are which I believe are supposed to work with videos made with CS8.

I can confirm that both screencast.com and YouTube.com support time based URL linking - also known as deep tagging. Here is a written tutorial on sharing with screencast. Look at the bottom of the "To Share Your Content" section for deep tagging instructions.

Hope this helps.

And if I want the show to run locally (i.e., on a LAN behind a firewall)?

I can't run this show on Screencast.com.

I personally don't know of a way to make it work locally. It's the Screencast.com server that's keeping track of the timestamps and matching it up with the data in the video/player.

Sorry for an answer you weren't hoping for.
I'm going to merge this post into another already on this topic.

Sincerely,
Mike Curtis
