Keystroke capture and display

I just purchased Camtasia 2019 for the Mac. I'm trying to make Photoshop tutorials and have Camtasia record and then display keystrokes (such as Command + N). If I record a small video with that keystroke combo using Camtasia, and then go into Visual Effects, I can't apply the Keystroke effect to the video. What am I doing wrong?

When using Windows................. you have to enable capturing key strokes in preferences.

I would imagine the process is the same or identical with a Mac.

Thanks Joe. But I don't see a Tools menu in my version of Camtasia 2019. Nor do I see menus for Capture or Effects.

Hmmm. I don't think you're doing anything wrong there; that should be all there is to it. Single-key commands (like, just 'N') aren't recorded, but if you're using the command key it should work.
Grasping at straws... are you sure you're dragging the keystroke effect onto the right video?

This is a result of increased security in Mac OS X 10.14.  You need to give Camtasia Accessibility permission.  You can do this from the System Preferences app.

Communicating this to users is something we are currently working on 10.15 is added a whole bunch of additional security constraints, including constraints on screen recording.

Problem solved. Thanks Stephen! I do think that Camtasia should ask for the proper permissions during installation though.

How did you do it on a Mac? I don't find the same menus as the Camtasia on Windows

Mine records some combinations like cmd+c cmd+v but not all keystrokes, which is bad. Most hotkeys I teach are not combinations. Did you actually figure out how to record all keystrokes?

I still can't figure out how to do it on Camtasia for Mac. It's vastly different from Windows's version
