Process for previous snagit to record desktop video:
- press print screen
- drag a box or set exact size
- choose mic that i want
- pull down my desk mounted mic boom
- click record and do my thing
- click finish
- trim a few seconds easily off the front/back
- upload/share/etc.
- done

Process for current snagit to record desktop video:
- press print screen
- drag a box or set exact size
- cancel the all-in-one because i cannot select mic!!
- open snagit
- select specifically video
- click 'record microphone' (which hourglasses)
- select 'Line In (Scarlett 2i2 USB)' - now I can actually select a mic
- pull down my desk mounted mic boom
- click record and do a test video because I don't trust it
- click finish
- play video back and discover, yep I was right not to trust it, now my voice sounds like a Alvin from the Chipmonks or the internal mic was selected
- push desktop mic on boom arm out of the way
- reach round the back of my laptop and pull out USB cable from USB audio interface
- plug USB cable back in
- expand system tray to exit snagit
- sometimes no tray icon so open task manager > details > end snagit32 process
- re-open snagit
- select specifically video
- click 'record microphone' (which hourglasses)
- select 'Line In (Scarlett 2i2 USB)'
- pull down my desk mounted mic boom
- click record and do a test video
- click finish
- check it works - i normally does now
- press print screen
- drag a box or set exact size
- choose mic that i want
- pull down my desk mounted mic boom
- click record and do my thing
- click finish
- trim a few seconds easily off the front/back
- upload/share/etc.
- done (phew - would have been quicker to ping the guy on skype and screenshare for a minute)...
- two minutes later I want a screenshot so I press printscreen and...DOH forced into video.  Cancel, open snagit, change to all-in-one, take screenshot.
- two minutes later I want a video so I press printscreen and...BLEEP it.  No mic!!

Snagit was misbehaving about a week and a bit ago so I uninstalled and reinstalled.  The original Windows event log errors for reference:

Note: I've been into preferences and forced it to use the XLR microphone/usb audio interface and it just resets to the Jabra.  However it generally skips over both of those and decides the internal mic is it's favorite (either that or messes up the audio completely).
