Like to see a Hairline outline around a Screenshot

I use SnagIt Mac to make screen shots. Used in Microsoft Answers forums Because of the way the screenshots are made they tend to blend in to the background. I would like to a black hairline box around the screen shot so the screen shot wouldn't blend in.

Hi there.  You can create an outline around your capture and you can set the weight of the outline to be as thick or thin as you prefer.  See: http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-snagit-draw-tools-prior.html.  Please let me know if you have additional questions.

I am aware of drawing rectangles and use all the time within a screen shot. However I have one screen shot utility that has been broken with the change to Yosemite in which, if you have a setting checked, automatically adds a hairline outline around the the shape automatically and you can even set the thickness:  fine, medium, large.

Here is an example of what  I am talking about:

So, you're interested in a hairline outline that is automatically added, is that correct?

Yes. Could be just one size doesn't need to be adjustable here is an example from the Broken screenshot utility before it broke.

One reason I didn't use it much is it didn't allow for annotations Just basic screen shots.

Without the hairline stuff blends in with background.

Nothing urgent. Just a  suggestion.

Why not just use the Effects tools to add the border?

It's difficult to get a Box line up just right so it doesn't clip any of the Graphic or text in the screen shot. Plus it takes extra time.  I use a lot of my screenshots to answer question on various help forums and tie up forum resources while typing a Post.  Its not a question can it be done with the tools already available. It is question of efficiency.

SnagIt is the main thing I go to. But I have to use others as well because of this and the ability to do timed screenshots, where say I wish to take a screen shot of menu > then a menu choice at the same time. SnapZ Pro Mac allows the hair line, but it is broke due to change to Yosemite  Snagit allows timed full screen screenshots, but not menu and menu choices. To do menu shots I have to use either SnapNDrag, or Skitch. I'd love to be able to do everything with Just Snagit and quit using the others all together.

As I said just a  "I would love to see" suggestion.

Current to get everything I need in a screen shot utility I am using
SnagIt Mac
Snapz Pro X
Ondesoft ScreenCapture
Ember
ShareBucket
SnapNDrag
Skitch

I would like to settle on SnagIt and forget the rest but each has at least one feature that SnagIt doesn't have. And Most features that all do, Snagit does best.

Maybe I'm missing what you're requesting but when I want a border around my screen shot, I take the shot, then in the editor I select the effects tabs, then click on border and it's automatically applied like the below. It's not automatic (that would be nice) but it's only 2 more clicks.

Glad I could help. You can create predefined effects too using the "style" feature.

Also, I do timed screen shots all the time with SnagIt. I'm also using Yosemite.

Yes you can do timed screenshots. But there are certain types Snagit can do that can not be in anything else, and other snapshot tools can do certain kinds that SnagIt  is not setup to do.  Not anyone product can do everything.  So you get use to using multiple snapshot apps to cover all the bases.

But of all the snapshot tools I have SnagIt is my top Dog utility.
