It is very hard to arrange items pixel-perfectly, for example when using the cool SnagIt auto-fill move.

Solution: Support SHIFT-drag to lock either x or y axis.

If you hold the Ctrl Key and use the arrows it moves at smaller increments.

I suggest you don't drag the selection at all. Just use the arrow keys.
Like Bob said, holding the Ctrl key "Or Shift on Windows" gives you the ability to move the selection 1 pixel at a time.

Pressing  the arrow keys moves the selection 5 pixels at a time.

Holding them down moves the selection slowly if you hold Ctrl or Shift on Windows. Faster if you do not.

I agree that a modifier key should be available and I voted yes for the idea.

Thanks, it somehow helps but a combination of slow move PLUS x/y lock would be fantastic.

All other graphic apps on the planet support <shift> to constrain a move along X- or Y-axis. Voted yes.

Move it with the arrow on the keyboard to solve this issue. It can be done now. No improvement is needed.

Boo. Not practical if you're moving something from the top of your canvas to the bottom and you want it to remain horizontally or vertically aligned. As Dave said, every other graphics app has this basic functionality so I am upvoting this request. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard is excellent for small moves. But to work efficiently you need to be able to drag stuff longer distances.
