Lock layers so they can/cant be selected while drawing or making new layers over the top

Hello.

I often need a few layers that overlap each other such as Text, shapes,
step markers. The problem I have is I cant directly draw each one on
top of the other as it automatically selects the object under it. At
the moment I have to flatten everything which takes away the ability
to edit layers. It would be helpful to lock a shape, text, or other
so I can add further layers without this issue.

A simple layer tree list would be most welcome, with the ability to lock layers.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the great feedback! One great way to draw objects on top of others is to hold down the "Alt" key as you are drawing and that will prevent Snagit from selecting the object below the mouse. It will instead draw the shape/callout/text/step right on top (without flattening everything else).

I hope this helps as a workaround, but we do greatly appreciate the feedback!

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks a great help thank you.  All that I would now like to see in addition to this is a basic layer tree.  Is there any way to select a layer under another layer without moving all layers out the way first?

Dan.

Hi Dan,

No problem! Working with multiple overlapping objects is an area where Snagit doesn't satisfy. As you mentioned, the best workaround I know of is slightly moving objects in order to access "lower" layers.

Thank you for the feedback, these are both great ideas for enhancements that have been pointed out on a number of occasions and we agree that improvements need to be made in this area.

Thanks,

Jason
